There are some items that are brought to your attention on forums like this that you would never have known about otherwise.
A few of those are truly exceptional buys. There are three items that I can think of that I've learned about here that transcend the price.
The Ultrafire T-50 is a great light with very little that could be improved regardless of price. The same can be said of the Thrunite TI and of the Senrenmu knives.
Of course anything can be improved in one sense but those items are exceptional and would continue to be even at substantially higher prices.
There are a lot of good deal such as Solarforce lights (even though I have none) but very few rise to the level of the 3 items I mentioned above.
What other items are out there that I may not be aware of yet that are a good a deal with very few compromises required as in the items I've mentioned?
By the way I think everyone on here would be impressed by the Sanrenmu GB9-707 and the Senrenmu 605. If you live in the U.S. both can be ordered locally and will arrive within 3 days for $11.95 (plus $4 shipping) and $8.25 (plus $2.50 shipping) respectively. These were from 2020 Concepts and Lazy Lizard Gear.
I'm glad some of the best Chinese buys are now available locally with 3 day shipping.
After reading through the various UF-T50 threads I find it interesting how quickly you've become attached to this light. I recall you had reservations about the ramping and also hoped for a lower price so it's kind of neat how this light has become such a favorite for you. That must be a testament to the real success of the of the T50.
However, I do wish it had quicker ramping and didn't have memory. Those are really my only personal complaints. Other than that I agree this light deserves a spot in the 'value for price' category, considering what you have to pay for the more known competition (e.g. Zebralight). We didn't really have any budget options before the T50 and UltraFire actually pulled through with a very good offering. Personally, I would like to see Version 2 that addresses some of the popular criticisms. That could make it the ultimate value in this flashlight category.
I am going to say my SR King is one of those lights that is simply wonderful right out of the box. Build quality and performance bar none in its class.
The reason I like it so much is that I so dislike tail switches, crenelated bezels and heat fins (and strobes). The memory is a good thing for anyone who doesn't want the light to always come on in high mode. For those who always want high first then it would be better to have no memory.
I've gotten used to it since I like low mode on start-up half the time and high the other half. The slow ramping isn't bothering me anymore since it usually either comes on at the level I want it on or I make small adjustments so ramping speed doesn't matter.
Since I like it and it was easy to take the tail magnet out and to open up the front to diffuse the beam the price is fine with me. Until I got it I didn't know for sure if those things would be doable and if not the price would have been a bit high since it would not have been so perfect to me.
I don't use P60 lights anymore now that I have this so those are the reasons that I like this light so much.
Wait a minute. If the T-50 was the same price as the Zebralight SC600, would you still have purchased the T-50????? The UF is a clone of that light, it is still about the money.
And the Chinese knives are definitely about the money. Not saying they are not decent, but no comparison to a Benchmade or Spyderco knife.
The King may be the exception here, as I can't think of a comparable light in the upper middle class.
I think you've got a good point there, troop. There are some products that are really worth it, for the price. Meaning at that price point, there's little else to compare. But that's the whole point (pun unintended). I've no doubt that the T50 is a great buy (judging from various comments here), but that's why it's such a great buy.... because of the price.
I have a few criticisms for improvements but I still think it's a step in the right direction that exceeds probably 99% of the budget lights. I don't think it takes $60 more to get what the Zebralight SC600 gives you. I think it mostly just takes a Version 2.0 of the T50 to achieve that. Even if you add $10 you're still at half the price or less.
