Java says it needs updating but the update pages have no software to download

from control panel and java it says i am up to date

Delete System32.
No, really, stop using Java, it is an unsecured POS that hackers use to steal data. If it leads you to a page from 2012 something is very wrong.

I believe you need JRE not JDK

Do you want to run JavaTM programs, or do you want to develop Java programs? If you want to run Java programs, but not develop them, download the Java Runtime Environment, or JRETM.

If you want to develop applications for Java, download the Java Development Kit, or JDKTM. The JDK includes the JRE, so you do not have to download both separately.

Not sure if the development kit is just having issues…get the runtime

Also there are still a few websites that might require it for some special functionality, although these are best avoided if you can. If you find that you don’t really use Java for anything, then yes, remove it. It’s easy enough to re-install in the future if you ever need it.

i didn’t even install it, it either came with windows or firefox

so i decided to get rid of it, but i can’t figure out how to uninstall plugins in firefox, there does not seem to be a remove option, so far all i can do is disable
