Nice even beam now. The beam in a smooth X6 reflector was like djozz’s shot, with the ugly center.
Edit: Now, with the diamond facet reflector…(shot at high shutter speed to show hot spot)

“There’s a place in the world for ” * OP. Nice job under challenging circumstances, I can relate. I know you generally prefer RS optics but for some things the blending of SS can result in more uniform beam and color. Do you have the Carclo quad equivalent to try it with?
RIP Dan Fogelberg.
This is a Carclo quad optic Scott, it’s mated to Richards new quad mcpcb. It’s the SS version, or 10621, purchased from Richard along with the mcpcb’s and Nichia 319’s.
It may be confusing that I also built an Eagle Eye X6 with the Nichia 319 to help determine if the ugly beam profile existed in this mirror reflector on a single emitter use. When it proved out that it does indeed, I rebuilt the light with an Illuminations Machines diamond faceted reflector and smoothed it out. I had to make an aluminum spacer, about 3.2mm thick (filling the emitter shelf area then stepping up to 31.7mm), and used a 32mm Noctigon on top of it, so the leads and contact points would clear the reflector.
Sorry if this second light creates confusion here, was answering CRX’s and djozz’s questions about the 319 beam profile.
Excellent work as always brother! :+1:
I only have a single M1 but I love the look and the feel of that light. Doesn’t hurt that a friend of mine turned into a sweet quad!
I also love Illumination Machines reflectors. I’m going to have to have a light with one of those gorgeous reflectors at some point.
Does your wife let you take it for a spin every once in a while?
Yeah, that one turned out so nice I always meant to build another one, just took forever getting around to it. I’m kinda glad I didn’t glue the mcpcb down though, as I do believe I’ll change out the 319’s for something else… will have to play with it some more and use it in a few real world situations and see what I think of it then. As it stands though, the 7th level just makes too much heat to really be feasible so it only makes sense to re-do it with a different emitter. Maybe it’s time for me to do a calibrated set-up like TK did, using different tints to create a nice neutral white. Hmmm……
Your the king of single cell monsters Dale
I don’t know about all that, Mitko builds some awesome C8 throwers and Scott sure turns a mean wood battery tube and Steve has really been steppin out with that mill and all, there’s a heckuvalot of talent here for sure!
I vote for this one.
Gonna have to start naming my flashlights Protozoa…
I suppose that’s better than Amoeba Lights.
King of single cell baby! lol
