Just did my first emitter swap

I put a Nichia 219 into my old Uniquefire AA S-1 .

The original emitter was an Osram . I initally ordered the light because the consensus was that the tint of these emitters was warm . Nope . Not even close . Still , I liked the fact that it was compact , AA/14500 , had a decent clip and one mode . I never liked the ringy beam or the tint .

So I ordered two Nichia 219s on 10mm stars from Illuminationsupply earlier this week and they arrived today , very fast shipping .

I pried the old emitter out , it was put in with a flexible putty . Quick desolder and resolder with the Nichia. I made an isolating disc out of a gummed packing label .

The beam is still ringy , and the emitter is not perfectly centered ( the original wasn't either ) , but now for the first time I have seen first hand the awesome beauty of the 92 CRI Nichia 219 .

And I like it .

Sweet success . Yeah !

It was one small blob of solder , but it changed everything ...

Once you go 219, you never go back. Congratulations on your first mod!

Two years before I built up enough courage to do this .

To take a perfectly functional light and just go for it .

Thanks to all of the modders for inspiring me .

Congrats on your first mod! :D The nichia really has an amazing tint.

Told you it was easy

Yep .

I just realized that I ordered those emitters on 10 / 31

and got them today ( 11 / 03 )

Fastest shipping ever .

oh yeah, illuminationsupply.com is one of the greatest companies I have ever done business with.

Oh no, congrats on the first mod your life will never be the same.

Nice that they are located in Saratoga, Ca. I usually get orders from them in just a few days. Good company. Welcome to the mod squad!

Congratulations, Jack! Maybe you'll be an inspiration to some other mod virgins around here (like me).

approved , modding is fun and addictive, and the 219 is KING!

Way to go, Jack! Hopefully this will be the first of many. I love my nichia modded light. I need to do another.

Good stuff Mr Clipper. What's next on the list? You will have to stock up on drivers and lots of other goodies now.

I do wonder where the cheapest place to get thermal adhesive is ....

I ordered mine from ledsupply.com

I bought this after E1320 linked to it. I cant tell you wether its good or bad but seems to work ok.

This is where I get mine, along with the miracle LEDseal product - a de-domer's best friend.

Cheapest is chinese star922, which is probably what's used in our beloved budget lights in the first place.

Works good enough.

Popped that cherry. Lol

Congrats on the success! I dont own many lights with there orgional led still in them. Now you can become a tint snob. Lol

Awesome. Maybe I’ll get up the courage someday soon.
