The original emitter was an Osram . I initally ordered the light because the consensus was that the tint of these emitters was warm . Nope . Not even close . Still , I liked the fact that it was compact , AA/14500 , had a decent clip and one mode . I never liked the ringy beam or the tint .
So I ordered two Nichia 219s on 10mm stars from Illuminationsupply earlier this week and they arrived today , very fast shipping .
I pried the old emitter out , it was put in with a flexible putty . Quick desolder and resolder with the Nichia. I made an isolating disc out of a gummed packing label .
The beam is still ringy , and the emitter is not perfectly centered ( the original wasn't either ) , but now for the first time I have seen first hand the awesome beauty of the 92 CRI Nichia 219 .
And I like it .
Sweet success . Yeah !
It was one small blob of solder , but it changed everything ...
