Just Got My BTU Shocker

I just joined the site and have been doing a lot of research here for my first big light purchase. This board is a great resource for information and I wanted to say thanks for that. On Thursday 5/2 I got my BTU Shocker from Ric and wanted to let folks know that they now come with the AR lens standard. I’d read that earlier models did not have this despite the specs saying it did. I haven’t had time/room to really test the throw on this light yet but it is insanely bright and you can clearly see the purple tint/hue to the Glass.

I agree with the comments I read on the battery holder; it is a little lackluster vs. the rest of the light but will do the job. For $120 I didn’t see another light out there that could really compete with it. It did come with a few extra orings and rubber caps for the switch.

Ok, this is funny! I ordered one, and Ric waited til the AR lens came in before shipping. So, he tells me it's shipped, posts a DHL tracking #, and I'm watching it arrive in Jacksonville FL and someone signed for it!

So you got my light! Think he just posted the wrong tracking # - still waiting, he emailed me this morn saying he has to wait til Monday to figure out where my order is...

Good Luck with it! They are awesome stock, but I'm upgrading a couple to XM-L2 U2's on SinkPAD's, even more awesome!

Oh - can you tell if the lens is glass or plastic? Probably glass, just curious. A few guys bought the UCL/p lens from flashlightlens.com for it, which is plastic, lighter weight though.

Cool! UCL lens now, might have email Ric to pack one in my next order.

That’s hilarious because he couldn’t give me my tracking number supposedly! I’ve been following your posts Tom and I may try that at some point in the future. The lens is glass, probably 1/8” thick or so. I bet you were wondering why the H is was going to J’ville and not Long Island…haha. It’s been raining for days down here so I haven’t really gotten a chance to play with it much. We’ve had about 9 or 10 inches of rain in the last couple of days and I’m tired of it. I want to test this light out in the boat at night. Should be able to find channel markers no problem.

Find channel markers? You may burn them!

I'm convinced that CNQ, FFL, whatever you want to call Ric's folly's are completely, totally messed up - chaos. I don't think it's a language barrier, more of a solar sytem or galaxy barrier, another planet, somewhere... We just think he's on the other side of our planet... I know it's unintentional - he tries, but wow, and it's not just me.

Good to know they are shipping with the AR lens now - mine was shipped a couple of days ago - can’t wait!

Yes, I see you ordered yours on the 28th. I'm seeing a FedEx order from him due to arrive Wednesday - hoping that's mine.

ordered mine on 4-11 and scheduled to arrive 5-8. first time somehow according to Ric it got returned so he reshipped via FedEx, hope I don’t have to pay BS custom’s fees.

BTW Tom, you just might have another BTU shocker to mod.

got the light today via fedex, definitely comes with AR lens along with coated lens.

never got my springs I ordered or the free DRY driver Ric promised.

contacted him and will see how this turns out. almost 4 weeks to receive light but worth the wait.

Interesting - a Shocker came today also via FedEx but nobody was home... Should get it tomorrow.

Got mine today - much faster than I expected; Ordered on the 28th, delivered today

This thing is great; came with AR lens as anticipated. THIS is the kind of performance I was expecting when I got my TR-3T6…

At least two of the boys from work want one after seeing it in action.

Also got my light meter today, so now I have got plenty of things to keep me busy with……

I was looking at this thread:

and noticed, from the pics, that when the batteries are in the carrier, the springs are a lot more compressed than on mine setup with the 3xEfest IMRs.

On mine, when the batteries are in the carrier, the springs are barely compressed, so I’m wondering if that might account for the sub-par performance I’ve been seeing?

If you’re using IMRs, theoretically you’d have the most output you can possibly get (from both drivers).

If you can elaborate as to why your performance is sub par then perhaps we can diagnose a problem.

Dunno - I've used KP 3400's (tight) and Pana PD's (loose). If you got them, try magnets - I've done that before with the Pana PD's -- not sure this will help though, but worth a try.
