My first impressions are that this light is pretty bright. Compared with my STL-V2 it has a tighter hotspot (a LOT tighter), and with the collimator head it does throw a lot further.
I will wait for night to fall and then I’ll be able to take some long range beamshots.
FYI… DX 66mm aspheric lens is better quality than this collimator head.
For DX 66mm aspheric lens, I ordered 4 times.
Last 3 year width about 66mm
Last 2 year width about 67mm (same size as 7G5V2 aspheric)
Today I received 3 of these aspheric from DX and width about 66mm.
Until I get my light meter and am able to get some numbers, visibly speaking the throw with the collimator head is underwhelming.
With stock head, it does throw further than the STL-V2 (slightly), and with collimator head it throws further too… but I expected more. When there isn’t a full moon I’ll take some shots.
Well, the STL-V2 doesn’t unscrew at the emitter, meaning you don’t really have a ‘candle’ function. So if you wanted to fit an aspheric lens you’d have to either cut off/trim the head or stick the lens on top of it.
I have ordered the 66mm aspheric lens from dx and the focus is horrible, you don’t even see a die projection. I have been thinking about ordering the Crelant collimator head about according to you it is not as good as the 66mm apsheric lens from dx. I am wondering if I got a bad one from dx. Do you have any beamshots of both the Crelant and the 66mm one from dx?
Thanks for the comments. I’ve been reading the comments on the dx and the reviews are good, some people wrote the lenses on dx are better than the Crelant one. So I am going to order again and hopefully this time it will be a hit not a miss.
