Just keep alert

I do not want to get into any details, but just want to say if you think you are away from trouble because you live out of town, you are not.

I live in rural farm country. Amish Farm Country.
My neighbor’s kid is dead and Father is in critical condition, both shot by masked gunmen.
This is way too close to me. Literally 1/4 mile from me, I know the father well.

I do not know what brought this one, nor will I try to guess.
I really feel like I need to invest in a camera system, then I may be a help to Police with information in this tragic situation.

Bottom line, keep your doors locked, keep a cell phone within arms reach and if possible, a firearm within arms reach.
I spend a lot of time out in my barn in the summer and now realize that I need to be armed at all times.
Never thought it would get to this, but I will not be needed to be reminded again.

I will update when they catch these cowards, and they will, just a matter of time.

Thanks,
Keith

Sorry to hear about this. I was up that way this weekend.Such a nice Area, but with a lot of tourist traffic.

Get yourself some web cams and long usb cables. Software like (free) iSpy can simply take time lapse pictures, or you can configure motion detection that triggers video and/or time lapse photos for whatever period you decide, including recording before motion is detected. Have them upload to a location online so that the information isn't lost if your computer is stolen or destroyed, and makes sure someone else can access it...or at least knows about it so the police can request access into your account.

It’s sign of the times… I heard about those kids trying to kill that girl to be with slenderman. Think things are just falling apart because of the internet and politics. When we were growing up there was almost no influence from the outside world, which may or may not have been a good thing. Now we have every kid with access to every idea good and bad.

Think this generation is in trouble… Jobs aren’t as available, games are taking time they could be using elsewhere. I don’t care how much hand eye coordination you get from first person shooters, it’s a waste of time because in the end nothing about it is real.

Like on bit-tech I used to frequent that board quite a bit. One of their long time forum members who I remember committed suicide earlier this month, that guy remember was on there all the time. I would say the violence is as bad as it was in the 90s today.

I keep a 12 pump. It can be loaded fast while still being legal here in CA. I’ve put steel cage on all the doors but my wife won’t let me cage the windows. The neighbor got robbed last year. I had cameras up and someone ripped them out the walls one night and took off. Had graffiti up and down the streets and one guy who just works on my neighbors house even got his truck tagged one night.

To be honest this is a nice neighborhood we live in. Nice people. But you see people desperate everywhere. I’ve given out more money to homeless people this last year than ever. Stay safe and keep your head up. Let the politicians live in their fruity land where everything is fine and dandy. Those of us with some common sense can see what is happening in our community.

When you see Israel stand alone with no help, times up.

Very sad. Sometimes when things like that happen, it sure makes it seem like a small world.

Personally, I have a full HD video camera system with a 1 terra drive and cloud back up. I also have 4 HD trail cameras hidden through out my yard. They are waist level aimed upwards. They are great at catching plate numbers and facial features if they have a hat on.

I built my system up over 2 years. Made it seem almost cheap! lol

Of course they only show you what happened after the fact. The trail cameras that capture the plates have helped solve several neighborhood crimes. After I installed mine, other neighbors did too. We now have a nice web in the hood.

Nothing budget about them. But, they are some of the best on the market. Trust me!

Have a look. Thank me after you get them and see them in action!

Get a dog along with a 20 gauge shotty. 20 gauge gives quicker recovery for a second shot and a is easier to control in a stressful situation than a 12.

Oh wow. :frowning: I hope you can stay safe!

Your loss and the sons loss, I live about 25miles South of Tucson , in a very small very rural area with a total of about 75 people in the community everyone knows everyone it came a huge shock 2years ago a 25 year old kid killed his 62 year old father with a brick while high on. Meth, I hope they catc h the person responsible and you stay safe.
Edit: even though legal to carry in AZ with out a concealed weapons permit I still have my cc for legal reasons, I live about 30 miles North of the Mexican border we have tons of border patrol driving, or flying overhead , and as well It takes a minimum or 30 minutes for first responders to reach me if they don’t get lost (I found this out when my wife. Called when ictio had a hypoglycemic Reaction and went into seizures) so I always carry.usaully my Glock G20sf with two extra magazines with a green laser light combo to keep safe from either two legged or four legged predators. I really hope the cat h the person responsible for the crime.

Very sad. I used to live in a rural area, pretty much in the middle of the woods on a dirt road. Cell phone coverage was so terrible that a call to 911 probably wouldn’t go through. And even if you did manage to tell them your address, it would take at least half an hour to get to you. Random truck turning around in the driveway or some strange noises outside and your imagination goes crazy.

“It’s better to have a gun in your hand, than a cop on the phone” in my opinion. Which blows my mind as to why anyone would want to ban personal defense weapons (guns). Without going into a speech about guns, I keep a loaded rifle with a Solarforce L2 at the end next to my bed for my protection.

In my opinion, I think a lot of what you see these days in the news is attributed to mental health defects. People are so phobic about labeling someone as being mentally retarded due to fear offending someone, that we just overlook it all together. When was the last time that you saw a new psychiatric ward open?

I hope those perpetrators get caught in the coming days. Stay alert with a defensive weapon at arms reach at all times if possible.

Everyone needs to stay alert and carry, but there is an interesting fact about murder that few Americans know.

The American homicide rate today is down to about what it was in the 1950s, and in the early 1960s, and lower than what it was in the 1940s.

People need to be alert. The last fact doesn't sell .22 ammo. ;)

Wow! That's crazy Keith! Hard to believe that would happen there where you are! Stay safe!

I’m very sorry for you. God bless you.

Diddo I live in Tucson. long story short I was doing a tuneup on my toyota truck at the appartment complex where I used to live (I never work on my car “alone”) A guy from 2 buildings over came after me with a baseball bat & the “problem” was quickly fixed when I produced the .357 Magnum (Ruger security 6) I had with me. He was half way across the parking lot stopped dead in his tracks. I asked him what the problem was and his reply was “aw nothing man we are cool”…….

God bless you and your family, say safe do what you need to to guard your family. Give your neighbor my best, I will have them in my prayers. Aaron

I hope the father is on the path to recovery, sadly, without his son. Stay safe. Let me know if you need some guidance building a system like I described. I'll be expanding mine in the new house, and using it a lot more than usual when I first get there.

One other option like the trail cams mentioned is the SJ4000. It has a motion detection mode. I think it may be possible to power/charge it externally with a solar charger so it can be kept running for longer periods. Mine should arrive in the next couple of days, and I'll look into that for you.

Sorry for your loss, hope you stay safe.

As a guy from the same state, this does concern me quite a bit.

Do you think a .22 will stop a bad guy? :stuck_out_tongue:
And Muto, I’m very sorry for your loss. Will take a moment to offer some prayers for all involved.

Perhaps because some attacks are not homicides with better medical care and wider access to it - but losing an eye, organ, mobility, and other inconveniences are still large concerns … but why should someone need to rely on medical care survival odds in the first place?
