K40 Blink???

I was out on a walk tonight with the K40. My streets just aren’t long enough to accommodate this beast, but I noticed at random times throughout the stroll that in turbo mode, there is a momentary “blink” or quick shut-off before resuming normal operation. It happened maybe 10 times in 20 minutes.

At first, I thought it was me pressing the mode ring, but I soon found out it wasn’t. Then I switched to high and then 190 lumen mode. It doesn’t appear to do it then, just on turbo. Moving it around rapidly does NOT cause it to flicker even for an instant. It’s not the batteries since they are unprotected and equally charged. If one wasn’t placed in the holder properly, I’d be able to make it switch off again by fiddling with it, but I can’t.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Any ideas?

How long is the duration of the blink?

It might be a faulty circuitry. I think mine blinks when it detects low voltage, I’m not sure.

I’ll give it a check and see if that’s the case.

The blinks are like the blink of an eye, a flicker, and none are timed, just random with only one per few minutes or seconds apart. But I’ve given it two more 5-minute runs and it hasn’t done it. Maybe I hadn’t adjusted the ring correctly?

Mine does give a fraction of a second blink when I’m changing the modes.

Not sure if this has something to do with your issue.

Took it out again tonight and it did it again. Now twice while sitting on the bed. I expected better of an $83+ light.

You should contact them. They may send a new driver, but not sure.

Alice should be able to help you out. There is the standard warranty included, I made sure of that

Thanks. There is also a “ticking” ever so slightly and at random times.

Hmm… as in a a ticking sound? That’s very weird indeed. I wouldn’t be happy about the light as well.

only thing i can figure is something may be shorting out...?

But it makes the sound not when blinking, just randomly. It has been on high for 15 minutes sitting on the bed. Sometimes it blinks when I touch it, but mostly it does not. No change in output at all.

I emailed Alice, but I’ve lost all fire for the light since I don’t have the skill to install another driver.

I am sure there is someone in texas here willing to help.

I’ve got a whole shelf of budget bangers, some of which have survived botched modding attempts and cost less than $15, and here the near-$100 light is acting up.

have you checked all connections? I have not got mine yet so I am not sure, but could possibly be a loose retaining ring if it has one

edit: sounds like you have my luck lol (sorry it really is not funny, i feel your pain)

Alice just replied, essentially, with “check to see if you have it on strobe.” Oh boy!

Typical... just be as clear as possible with the issue, link her to the thread too

Yikes, I wish CS wouldn’t treat us like we’ve never handled a light before. :~

Who knows what kind of people they come across on a daily basis though....

Very true, they must come across a wide spectrum of people.

Hope you get all your problems sorted Joe.

I had also the same problem on my K40. It always blink ( blink like low voltage warning pulse ) on every level except lowest and highest mode.
I sent it back to China to get replacement.

That has to be it—low voltage warning acting up. Alice has been helpful. Well, I know what I’m doing with mine.
