Klarus XT12GT stopped working

Hello all,

Had this just over a year a suddenly it stops working.

When I try to charge it, the light flashes a yellow color.

What could this be?

Did the protection circuit of the cell that came with the light disconnect? (caused by over-discharge)

If you have a dmm, you may check the cell’s voltage.

Where is the protection cell?
I have a DMM but where would I connect it to.
Sorry, not very technical.

Just take a voltage reading from the + and - ends of the cell, if it’s zero, the protection might have tripped it off.

Take the cell out of the light. Afaik they are sold with 3400 mAh and 3600 mAh cells. What does it say?
V-max. = 4.2, V-min = 2.8. Put a probe of the DMM on each end of the cell. What voltage do you read?

Well I couldn’t find my DMM but I found an additinal cell hat came with it, swapped and it works fine… so must be the first cell I guess?

The first cell being a cell that came with the light, or a cell you already had in your posession?

Both cells came with the light, second one which I put in now and works okay is the spare.

IMHO the Klarus comes with protected cell(s), so I think tatasal’s suggestion in post#2 has occurred.

Is there any easy way to recover the original cell or is it dead?

usually tripped cells get back active if plugged in a charger or the internal charging is used

I can’t give you any proper advise if I don’t know of which specific cell you are we are talking.

1 - Please read the text on the side of the cell.
2 - Find your DMM and establish the remaining voltage of the cell.
3 - How long has this cell been in this state. Over a week, forget it.
Chemical reactions are probably destroying the cell from within as we speak.

You received your light with two cell’s? Maybe they are not standard-issued by Klarus.
Personal I would prefer using an UNprotected cell in such a high powered light.
Most of those have just one type of protection on board, a Current Interrupt Device (CID.
When your DMM reads 0V, that has popped. That’s the end of the line for an unprotected cell.

If it concerns the same cell that was included with my XT12GT, it will be a protected cell.
Meaning that it does not deliver when the voltage has dropped below a certain fixed point.
It still may be “alive” but dormant. However, it will not be recognised by some chargers.
And from your internal charging circuit?
Most chargers won’t recognise it as a Li-Ion cell but as a NiMH cell and stop charging.
But if there is just 1V on board, it may be possible to save/revive it.

So start going where you have never gone before by seeking/giving answers on questions 1-2-3.

there is also the variant to take a full cell and 2 paper clips and short both ends so that they are parallel, but only for a split second
be aware if one is full the other empty the paperclips turn burning hot in no time
read the voltage then with DMM still showing 0 the PCB or cell is dead

never do this on a dead unprotected cell
