I’ve purchased lights, but have been tepid about getting in to building one yet…I do have soldering/electronics experience though, but no tools. I’ve already been planning on buying a DMM and solder station after Xmas

Despite having soldering tools, the closest I’ve gotten to actually doing a mod was swapping the pill between two L3 L10 lights. Or replacing a faulty switch on a Convoy S3. I’ve been putting off all the mods I want to do because it’s hard to get started.
With a C8, I think I’d want to try a dedomed XP-G2 running around 3A or 4A. IIRC, that can get around 100kcd. And from what I gather, de-doming can be pretty easy with a slow chemical soak. It’d make a nice small thrower, almost like a pocket SR90.

Should be perfect. I was talking about the soldering station with the mrs. I was subsequently expressly forbidden to order one, so I’m thinking there might be a Hakko under the tree come Wednesday.
