Does anybody know of any website(s) that sells LED flashlights and a variety of compatible chips? I would like to purchase an LED flashlight and change the LED chip to a different wavelength(nm).
So far, I’ve seen a few Chinese based warehouse websites with Ultrafire LED flashlights and some LED chips. I don’t know if the chips are compatible, and they did not have all the wavelengths I wanted.
What I am looking for:
1)A 10W Ultrafire flashlight emitting 1000 lumens(more or less) with a pulse mode and a zoomable lens
2)A variety of compatible LED chips(again 10W emitting ~1000 lumens) with respect to the wavelength(um) to replace the already installed LED in the flashlight.
I would preferably like to spend a maximum of a)$15 on the flashlight and b)$5 per chip.
When it comes to LEDS, wavelength is usually reported as color temperature.
LEDs in the visual range typically have color temperatures ranging from 3000K (orange) to 7000K (blue-white). However, depending on your needs LEDs in the UV or IR range are also available.
If you want 1000 lumens you’re probably looking for a CREE XML2 LED. It’s available in 3000-7000K.
If you need a specialized LED such as pure red, IR or UV, you’re not likely to find one in the 1000 lumen range that’s low voltage enough for flashlights.
Starting out, you might want to look into flashlights that use “P60 drop-ins” These are interchangeable modules with the LED/driver/reflector. You can get drop-ins with different colors. Drop-ins are not very well suited for really high powers, but you will get a feel for what the different color LEDs will do.
