Einstein did at least two things that were Nobel quality. His contribution to quantum mechanics and the relativity theories. I think it was for the former that he got the prize, though he is popularly better known for the latter.
Yeah, well I also feel snubbed that they did not recognize my fun-da-mental work on the Smoke Emitting Diode and the Noise Emitting Diode.
Hey! TP - I've also done some of those SED and no one seemed to care.
We will never be well regarded in our own lifetime! LOL
I just read the headline of the Nobel award on LED and assumed the awardees included the people in the first LED. Strange why red LED, the first LED, was excluded.
With all due respect, solid state electroluminescence was discovered way earlier than stated in the article - by a Russian inventor named Losev. The emitter was invented sometime in the 20s. If anyone should claim to invent the LED, Losev should be more qualified.
IMO, nothing to be found insulting from the it - the Nobel award is given due to the huge leap from something barely useful to something that contributes huge energy saving all over the world. Especially that the growth of gallium nitride (the bandgap which gives off blue wavelength) was considered impossible at the time - didn’t stop these guys.
The prize for penicillin and that for the charge coupled device went to the original discoverers, and some people have argued that they should have gone to the ones who put those things to practical use. So they may choose either one, according to their judgement.
