Has any one tried using color temperature conversion filter sheets to warm the color temperature of LED lanterns and flashlights? I know such products exist and figured that they ought to work well for lining the shrouds of LED lanterns and possibly also for placing inside the lens on flashlights as a much easier method than LED replacement. A little searching turned up lots of possibilities.
Below is a link to a sheet of Lee filter plastic that is supposed to convert 6500K light to 4600K. IMO it ought to nicely warm up the light from many lights a lot. At 21” by 24” it is large enough for a lot of flashlight filters or several lantern filters.
I use these (yellow #10 and various ambers) in the old blue-white LED nightlights, to make them no-blue-light sources.
Not efficient compared to plain amber emitters, but, it works.
I just ordered sheets of 1/8 CTO, 1/4 CTO, 1/2 CTO and Full CTO Lee filter sheets to play with.
Lee even offers a cold white filter specifically for LEDs which is supposed to convert from 7000K to 3200K tungsten light. Below is a link to their filter materials reference page. They list four Digital LED C.T.O. colors for converting LEDs of various color temperatures to 3200K Tungsten lighting color temperature.
so you didnt order any from bulbtronics? i was thinking of trying some filters too.
i wanna add some on my newly acquired blinding lantern.
does any of these filters have tape on the backside?
After careful fitting and seeing the effect, if I like it I will most likely use very small areas of 3M spray adhesive or water based contact cement to tack the material in position. Where there is a will there is a way. Glad that the material is not adhesive backed as if it was then once applied it would very likely be a total PITA if you changed your mind.
I have been using the backing from Printing-plate backing tape, its a frosted clear plastic sheet that adds just the right amount of warmer tint. ( i have tested this already in some of my smaller LED lanterns.
actually its not. its removed simply by peeling it off, and leaves no residue.
i use dc fix. but it only comes in clear. i wish they had some that gives warmer tints .
