LED Projectors

I have been reading reviews about home projectors for movies etc, and most of them only mention the big, well known brands,
like Epson, Benq, Viewsonic etc.
It seems that you have to spend about $1000 to buy a decent model.
Does anybody have any experience buying a good lower cost projector from one of the Chinese sites like Banggood, Aliexpress etc.
I have a reasonable TV at home for movies, so I’m not after some state of the art home cinema set-up.
Something portable would also be an advantage to take on holidays to use with an android device or usb stick, and to use for presentations for a small group of people.

Thanks for any advice you may give.

I’ve used a Philips PPX3614 (3410 and 2480 before that) for a few years now as my main screen, low res but very watchable.
Old tech now but much better than the cheapy projectors i saw at the time, especially regarding built-in media capabilities.(Even the 2480 and 3410 had issues decoding surround sound, the 3614 is Android based and fares much better. Old Android though, 2.3.1 and can’t be updated to my knowledge.) Sorting out sound is an issue in general, in my experience the headphone output on pico projectors is too weak to power portable speakers properly so you’re better off taking the sound from the media player, and if you’re going to run an external media player or even a laptop then look at the PPX4010, just an HDMI in but runs from 5v. And is hopefully a more acceptable price.

Hi Marc E,
Thanks for your good advice.
It looks like the PPX4010 is currently unavailble/discontinued.
There is a PPX4350W model on Amazon which may be the replacement.
I will look into this.
