Lets take a look under the positive pole of the Sanyo UR18650FM

The wrap that’s inside is connected at both ends. You need to cut away both ends before it will slide out. Cut off the positive end below the ridge and remove it. You should see the spiral of the wrap. Then cut off the negative end, and push from the positive end. it might slide out. Take lots of pics, so I do not have to do this myself; I have a few dead laptop pulls that are begging me to be disassembled.

Well, I guess 18650s can also be toxic if they vent. If I do this (dont know when I have time, nuts and the right weather) I will do it outside.

Its currently out again shorting to discharge it. I want to disassemble it further, any hints?

Lithium? Hell no… If it was I would be dead by now. I’ve taken apart those primary lithium batteries and gotten pure lithium from them in the past, and I’m still alive.

Nightcrawl, all I have to say is wear your gasmask. Also, opening batteries tends to be easy with one of those fancy pipe cutters with the blade that you rotate, remove the wrapping from the battery and use that on the indent near the positive end.
