Last weekend, I did some maintainance and cleaning. I found this LG MJ1 strngely tight when I tried to pulled out of Nitecore LR30 to recharged it.

Still strange. I don’t know why it suddenly got crushed like this eventhough it’s been getting along well with LR30 for about 2 years without problem.
Let’s hope nobody digs it out and burns their eyes or rips off their fingers in the explosion.
Lithium is nothing that should be allowed to seep into the groundwater, especially if there is a well nearby…
SO SECURE IT IN A BUCKET FULL OF DRY SAND AND BRING IT TO THE RECYCLING FACILITY !
Lithium metal batteries and li-ion are two different things. Li-ion are an ionic form of lithium with no lithium metal. Mix a bucket of salt water outdoors and toss it in. It will be completely dead in a few hours. No toxic metals. You can take to a recycler if you wish.
Li-ion fires, like Electric vehicle’s that occasionally burn on the side of the road, are put out using water. Lithium metal, when exposed to water creates hydrogen. So if there is such a thing as a lithium metal fire, you wouldn’t use water because you’d make the fire worse. EV’s don’t use lithium-metal (primary) batteries since they aren’t rechargeable.
When I dispose of li-ion cells I run them down as much as possible on a charger (Opus 3100 or Accucel 6) and then short them across a resister for a day or so. Afterwards I recycle them along with other batteries such as alkalines.
