Don’t wanna give anything away but I’m getting pretty close to a completed driver
Any thoughts on the layout?
I would recommend going with a T1616 MCU and adding flashing pads on the other side for easy firmware updates.
Also the T1616 is 3mm×3mm so it will give you more room to work with and it doesn’t require thermal calibration.
That being said new firmware would need to be made for it.
Any big reasons for ATTiny1616 vs ATTiny25 or just for size? I see that it has I2C which would be pretty nice. I am open to making new firmware so thats not an issue, just would have to redevelop for the new chip.
If you ordering pcb online, mind design min. requirements for track wide, space and so on.
EasyEDA makes following the manufacturer requirements super easy compared to Altium. Honestly EasyEDA is just all around much nicer to use for pretty much all hobby stuff than Altium.
I strongly disagree. IMO KiCad already has Easyeda beat in pretty much every category but jlcpcb integration (which is good with plugins as well), but in return the software is hugely more capable - and Altium is a whole other league compared to KiCad again.
It depends on what you consider big reasons.
The biggest for me is being able to update firmware without having to disassemble the light.
No thermal calibration required.
Dynamic PWM for lower lows.
Less parasitic drain.
Larger memory capacity.
Very nice project!
What you think @thefreeman?
quite a bit late, but I think I am on a driver design that I am comfortable ordering. quite a bit of optimizing has gone into it since the last time I posted. soon to be integrated into my own complete light design as soon as I get the CAD for the body done
Nice!
Could somebody share a copy of the spreadsheet? the file was deleted.
I should have made a copy, I don’t have one. Sorry
Is Mountain Electronic really the only option for a good 15mm driver?
You used to be able to buy Lumintop Tool AA drivers separately if you DM’d them on aliexpress or via their email or something. I’m not sure what the prices were but I recall people were buying them to install in 14500 hosts. Not sure if they still sell them or what the prices are even but you could always try asking them.
I’ll check that out. Thanks.
I’m interested in this, too. I really like the Convoy T2/T3 driver (12 group) but it is 17mm and not much room for shaving it down.
Kaidomain has a 15mm but it’s single mode. They have a 16mm but it’s high-low-strobe (and the pic of it with a barely attached resistor doesn’t give much confidence).
I’m about to try my luck on sanding down a linear convoy driver. I ruined one yesterday. Good thing they are cheap!
Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
Tool AA 2.0 driver. 2 for $15ish
I just found this on AliExpress: | Flashlight driver for Lumintop TOOL AA size 5 modes with memory

Anyone know of a 48 - 50mm driver 3V?
