Agreed, but I am just glad the driver was not in the truck when it started. Cells are required to pass safety testing for transportation purposes, so likely if a cell really started the first its likely a cheap unqualified overseas knock off.

I doubt that these are legit cylindrical lithium-ion cells.

It is either an Ultrafire, which just doesn’t go through quality control, and a lithium polymer cells, which don’t have as stringent testing as cylindrical cells.

The article is so sparse though.
No words on what kind of cells, what could have caused the damage to the cell first, and if it was a loose cell or a package that got punctured by something else.

The battery on my S7 Edge swelled up last year. So much so that it popped the back of the phone off and damaged my case.

I bought a replacement and installed it. The old one was swelled up like a balloon. It still actually worked, but had clearly emitted something into its envelope.

The problem is…no one will ever know or care what kind or brand of lithium ion battery it was or how it was packaged, just a blanket crackdown on the type itself.

I personally think the shippers just want companies to pay as much as possible for a permit.

Today, a shipping permit can go from a 1000$-10000$, which is extremely expensive, along with normal shipping costs.

This is why there aren’t many stores selling unused/almost new battery packs that could easily be done.

Now onto the things which matter, all I can say is the more :-D morons which get in touch with a given technology thing requiring special care, the more problems which may arise. I apologise in advance to those who may get offended by the term moron and the previous cheap joke.

In my opinion, we need to stop blaming and instill proper education into people. The media is a @#$% I no longer care about, full of useless drama and misinformation.

Simple solution. Simply enter a search for a Google link and click to translate or view the saved page. The whole link is translated or displayed. Including photos. The translation of the restriction does not work. Tested.
