My latest invention: the 57DDLOCA version of 519A. It gives a CCT of around 4500~4700K and a tint between dead neutral and dedomed 519A.
I am not a fan of the fully dedomed 519A 5700K since it is way too rosy and the CCT is a bit lower than my liking. I always tried to modify the color profile by smudging all kinds of transparent / transluncent material on the glass surface. I found that the LOCA UV glue to be perfect for this purpose. Just dab a tiny drop on the 519A DD glass and use UV light to cure it. The result is below: CCT Increased from 4200k to 4700k and it is a bit less rosy, but still maintains a negative DUV. I’d say the tint falls pretty similar to the legendary SW45K.
What is LOCA UV glue? It is an optical adhesive used to bond the touch panel glass to the LCD screen on pretty much any touch LCD device, like phone and laptops. It is fully transparent, UV cured, soft and somewhat heat resistant.
You can buy a tube of LOCA UV glue on Aliexpress for like $1.5 for 50ml and experiment. Instead of shaving 519A dome, which is extremely hard to do consistently, just pluck the dome off and drop a dab of LOCA glue on it and cure with UV light. You can even control the thickness by layering the glue and cure layer by layer to increase the CCT/DUV further. As to why it works, the LOCA UV glue provides a layer of intermediate interface between glass and air, increases light extraction just like the original silicone dome. After fully cured it is still soft to touch and won’t damage the underlying emitter. It can be scraped off if you don’t like the result. You can even experiment it further by building a ‘dome’ on a domeless LED using cured layers of LOCA glue, how fun! I did that to a 2700K DD 519A by giving it an artificial LOCA dome. The color and tint almost looks like a domed 2700K.
