Hi everyone, well been on the look out for a while now for a decent torch for some time and come the understanding i need to read alot more about it and seen folks mention this place, so thought i'd sign up and say hi, not much to tell you about me need a "decent" torch almost a jack of all trades to some degree, very unsure about what i need apart from ipx8, solid as is quality brand, would like one very low power setting and about £100 to spend, but as i say way to early to ask for suggestions, but that's on my list

First question I always ask someone is, “Whaddya gonna do with it?”.

For close-in with, you want a wide smooth beam, maybe not terribly bright (to avoid washing out what you’re shining at).

For longer distances, you want something throwier.

Do you need super brightness, good runtime, etc.?

A zoomie will get you both throw and flood, but the moving head means more possibility for water/dust ingress.

Also, size. Do you want something pockettable, keychain size, or a bat?

I’ve never spent that much money on a single light…
But does a Jack of all trades light even exist?
I would buy several lights and be that Jack myself. :slight_smile:

It can’t be a pocketable EDC light and a decent thrower at the same time.
So you’ll have to buy several lights. :smiley:

Most lights are IPX8.

I think i would start with a Convoy C8.
Not too big, not too small not expensive and really bright.
It throws quite well with a smooth reflector, but is more versatile with an orange peel reflector (i.m.o.)
Can be bought for around $ 18. :slight_smile:

Convoy is a great value brand with beam profiles from wide angle to tight using an S2, an M1, or a C8 and all will be way under budget even including good cells and a charger. The S2 and it’s variants are straight tube lights ~1” in diameter and the C8 has a larger head for the reflector while the M1 is in between in both size and beam angle.
