Looking for 3x, 4x, or 6x 18650 host, that isn't long.

I should likely explain that request a little further.

I’m looking for a host that holds 3, 4, or 6x 18650s in at least a 2s configuration, but 3s and 4s are fine too. 1s is not (so the King flashlight style is out). The other requirement is that I don’t want the flashlight to be long. It can be the length of 2x 18650s, but any cells beyond that need need to be held next to each other to reduce length.

Crabby requirements eh? An example of what works is this:

Challenge is that I can only find it as cheap as $65.

Any suggestions?

I think what you linked is the closest you’re going to get. Peoiple have modded the Fandyfire Rook to run 3S, the same principles could theoretically be applied to the King, but the King is about as good as you’re going to get. Unless you want to gut an expensive 3x18650 light such as the BTU Shocker. Oh wait, I forgot about this host from CNQG . This should take this reflector if you want throw instead of flood. About all I can think of though.

Also this one, also from CNQG, though it likely has a unique-size reflector.

Youre reflector linky no worky for me, just 404’s. Loading... this does

And I wonder how that slug/sea cucumber looking one would go with an MTG2? http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1208 May be a thread coming up so as not to derail.

Sorry, no help to the OP though. (wait, I fixed the link)

I have no idea about the quality, I'd love to see a review/teardown though. Cells are in series.

This was perfect, thank you - ordered

Thanks EF and TGT, those were fantastic suggestions also.

Excellent - now if you ever get it, you must post a review or at least pics of the internals.

Agreed!

I take it KD is still a slow shipper? It has been many years since I’ve ordered from them last.

Don't be shocked if you get an email 2 weeks from now where they tell you it's sold out and ask if you'd like something else as a replacement. They do OK sometimes, I just have terrible luck.

I thought I should follow-up with everyone.

The flashlight arrived without issue - they shipped quickly, and it arrived here in good packaging.

The flashlight however, did not work. It simply wouldn’t turn on. I verified all of the electrical connections and was able to confirm that the driver was seeing power. The tactile switch wasn’t faulty either, as I tried bridging it’s contacts and that didn’t activate the driver. So essentially, the driver itself is problematic. I also tried powering the LEDs from a bench PSU and there was nothing wrong with them. So - the driver is bad.

However, as mentioned, I only wanted this for the host, so I don’t actually have any issue with what I received. I’ll likely re-use the XMLs, and they work just fine, so I’m not in any way disappointed. However, if anyone in the future is reading this thread for a perspective on the flashlight itself, you might want to be cautious of my experience.
