Looking for a driver

I’m after a single mode driver for a project coming up.

1x single mode, 1 cell (lithium), e-switch, 26mm board (or less), 7amp output (or there about)

I also want something I can use as an e-switch for something that is very low power (less than 0.3amp). A small single mode e-switch driver would probably work. I just don’t think I have space for a latching mom switch (which would make things easier of course).

If I had a license I’d apply for the job as your driver. Is a one track mind similar to a single mode? :stuck_out_tongue:
Would the 15mm BLF SK68 7135 driver with a single 350mA chip on it work for the small driver? I could build one but would need to have the firmware to suit I’d assume.

If the SK68 is e-switch compatible then yeh that would do :+1:

We need someone to chime in. I know RMM sells eswitch 7135 drivers. I dont know what the difference is though to the clicky switch driver.

Yeah, a FET driver with e-switch is easy enough and would give you plenty of output. Richard could do one for you. He could also do the low-current single mode e-switch driver. I don’t know what shipping would be though - maybe pricey. He already has the drivers. It’s just a matter of you ordering them with single mode. You could check prices including shipping at his website.

If you wouldn’t mind building them yourself, you could order boards from OshPark and just get some ATtiny13a from Richard, pre-flashed with a single-mode e-switch firmware.

I’ve bought from Richard before so no worries there. Looking at his list of lights a fet driver would work for the smaller driver but I’d rather have the power regulated for the larger one. The mtn max driver looks like it would be perfect if I could use a single cell. I was holding off on contacting him as I didn’t want to put him on the spot but I guess there’s not much out there to suit my requirements.

For what LED?
3v LED I assume? or 6/12v?
You will definitely not get 7A from most 3v LEDs out of a 1 cell battery unless you get some special boost driver.

Yeah, sorry, I don’t think this exists.
You either need to put LEDs in series and use a boost driver for 12v LEDs, or use less current.

Bugger :weary: I thought it would work as I tested one of the leds and got 3.3v at 1 amp. So seven of them at 1 amp would give ‘not unreasonable’ runtime from a 26650.

I guess I can reconfigure to 2x 26350 and figure some kind of step down for the smaller driver.

Oooh I see, actually yeah that might work because when you put them in parallel the Vf stays the same, so yeah it would be 7A at 3.3v my bad.

I was wondering why I didn’t see this driver then realised it doesn’t look e-switch compatible.

Oh I forgot about the E-switch part.
I haven’t seen any good quality drivers like this with an E-switch that can do that much current :confused:

I personally get all my drivers from mountain electronics because unlike with cheap chinese sellers you actually get exactly what you pay for, no overrated BS.

For the smaller light with all the LEDs in parallel, you should be able to just buy any of Richard’s FET drivers, configured with e-switch and single mode. For the regulated driver, you could get a Qlite momentary and ask Richard to remove all but one of the 7135’s and flash the firmware for single mode. If the 350mA is too much for your application, Richard could even flash it with a single PWM’d mode. Single doesn’t have to mean full blast. :wink:

In other words, everything you said you want in these drivers is pretty much standard options with Richard. There’s nothing very much out of the ordinary here.

Thanks for the replies, guys, but I think I got it sorted. I worked out I can run the smaller driver on a wide voltage range. That means I’m free to run 2s and a mtn-max driver at 6 amp on single mode.

I’m​ starting to get it right in my head so I can start ordering parts now. Could be a while before I start building, though.
