I’m currently in the process of putting together a list of parts for my first flashlight build (a thrower) and I am really lost on what driver I need. If you could recommend me a driver and explain why it’s good that would be great. Feel free to comment or recommend changes to my current parts list.

1. Convoy C8+. Good choice.
2. Same thing for the lens.
3. XP-G2 LED. It would be better to use an XP-L HI instead for more throw.
Other than that, you are good.
For a driver, I would be getting this one:
That’s a good driver, I almost got it, but I’m cheap and wanted to try Simon’s (he runs the Aliexpress Convoy store) stuff and got his single li-ion Fet driver in 17mm for $6.50 shipped vs. the mtn. one for $15 shipped. It says 6A, but you know based on your 30q it will easily pull that on the xp-l, maybe even 7A. If you want really bonkers do an SST40 that will give you 1600lm easy on the get driver.
If you want just about unlimited UI configurations out of the box plus optional high current spring and good wires get the 17DD, but the Convoy driver has attiny13 so if you have the stuff you can flash it to run Bistro, etc.
