looking for a lightweight 18650 xp-g or xm-l light.

I am trying to design my dream camping light. These are my requirements:

lightweight

some throw, not a pure flooder

runs on 18650

moonlight mode

neutral tint

In order to keep weight down while still having some throw I am leaning toward an xpg2 in a tube style edc type light. High modes will not be run for long periods, just long enough to find a trail or investigate a sound at night. So crazy heat sinking is unimportant.

So I am looking for a lightweight 18650 light with at least a little throw. I am open to building one if there is a nice light host available.

—edited to include xml as an option—

Hi,

I think that you changed the title, to exclude XM-L, but if that’s still not excluded, the Zebralight SC52 NW might fit your needs, albeit it’s an AA/14500 light.

It is available in NW, and it has a moonlight mode, and it’s very bright. Somewhat of a flooder, but throws pretty well.

There’s also an 18650 version, the SC600, but the NW version is not out yet, or at least doesn’t seem to be available.

Edited.

How about Eagletac D25LC2 Clicky (see reviews on BFL) with xp-g2? Exists with NW emitter too afaik.

cpfmp has a discount coupon afaik for it.

You might like to get a Solarforce P60 host and have a drop-in made by one of the clever people in here or at CPF that specialise in such matters.

I can't think of who to contact here offhand but I've seen some nice offerings including some who can customise drive levels to suit your needs.

Anyone else care to suggest a modder/builder that could make something suitable?

Or of course you could pick up an Armytek Predator Pro and customise the levels for yourself. It's a fantastic light if your budget will stretch this far....

build one of the convoy s series lights with a qlite and Noctigon mounted xp-g2 from intloutdoor. jobs a good’un

Don’t know any XP-G2 light but personally I am waiting for my Uniquefire T20, Qlite rev. A driver and XP-G2 on Noctigon to arrive, and something interesting will be built from there

I was thinking about the convoy route but i think the convoy reflectors are made for xmls.

nope, they work well with xp-g2’s too

This is an extreme lightweight 18650 light - lightest I've come across, but a cool tint, XP-E, a zoomie, and also discontinued .

ZB-006

But available here: http://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10002918/1218600-ultrafire-zb-006-cree-xp-e-r3-3-mode-200lm-led-fla

I’m OK with XML if it can be light (lighter than a solarforce) and have some throw.

this: http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1857. Lighter weight than the ZB-006 at 38g, available in neutral tint, but it's an XM-L2 and not sure of the beam, though there's a bunch of postings about it on BLF.

This one uses XP-G2 and 18650.

Tom, would it be possible to just put an XPG2 in a 2.8A Convoy? Or is that too much juice?

nope, they’ll take it but your best ordering a 16mm noctigon mounted xp - g2 from intloutdoor to avoid heat sag. I’ve been running an alu mounted xp-g2 for a while at 3a but its changed to a copper mounted dedomed xp-g2 at five amp last weekend. now I’m onto refining it.

Thanks Gords!

+1 there Gords. If you change the emitter, best to change the board over to copper too, specially with IOS's deals on these.

Trustfire TR-801 with the 'attack bezel' ground down flat, pocket clip added, & your choice of LED/driver is still one of my favorites, even given my growing family of Convoys...

Are the Noctigons thicker than aluminum, and if so does that create any problems? Thanks!

The Convoy pills are threaded into the head, a thicker/thinner board just means it'll tighten against the reflector at a slightly different spot. Changing the insulator/centering ring thickness has the same effect, you just screw it in until it stops and that's where it stays.
