Hi. I’m looking for a new pocket-carry light to replace my SF L2T. Budget is around $100, but this is not set in stone. I’m looking for a light that can comfortably be pocket carried instead of having to rely on a holster. I’m not too picky about maximum light output (I was quite happy with the 200-something lumens put out by my Nichia 219 P60 dropin), but I would like something with multiple modes including a <10 lumen low and a reasonable medium mode. Disco modes, if included, should preferably be hidden.
As for battery type, I was thinking something along the lines of 2x AA or 2x 16340 cells. I’m uncomfortable with the idea of using 18650’s as I have a feeling they’d make the light uncomfortably thick to pocket carry, but this is something that is open to debate. Any opinions on this particular subject would be very much appreciated
So far I’ve been looking at the D25A2 Clicky and the D25C2 Clicky ; I like the D25A2 for it’s commonly found batteries, but I also like the D25C2 for it’s stupidly high light output. I’ve also considered the D25LC2, but I’m not sure if that’s bordering too thick for pocket carry.
Zebralight Sc52, 260 lumens in a 1aa size. It’s pocketable and has a lockoutable tailcap.
The Sc600 mk11 is supposed to be coming out too, very small but the heads thicker than you may want.
The Sunwayman C20c looks small enough for pocket carry, I got a C15a on the way.
This is a twisty but a really cool pocket EDC.
Eagletac D25C2 mini XP-G2. It is small and slim, takes two CR123/16340, but I run it on a Sanyo 16650. The deep pocket carry clip is excellent.

If your keen on the nichia, the nw t6 3c may be a let down, I don’t know for sure, but you can pick your modes, mine has a lobster claw fitted and a lanyard I tied, it rides with my pocket knife clipped to it as well, no damage, even when my little boy demands it on the lanyard and swings it like a morning star….
It’s cell unfussy, takes 3400mah cells no worries, never activates in your pocket due to the recessed stiff clicky. Tailstands with the claw fitted, feel free to order, send me the outstanding $69 and thank me later….
I am selling a brand new in box jetbeam rrt-21. It uses an 18650 but ill throw one in if you don’t have one. Fully variable brightness with the control ring. Haven’t even used it but need to sell it and ill give ya a fair price on it plus you’re in Canada too.
The Shiningbeam S-mini with XPG has been my favotite EDC of all time, I have smaller ones but this one clipped in my left pocket with the supplied clip just feels ‘right’.The 3 modes with reverse clicky are very well spaced and runtime with any 18650 is very good.It also tailstands perfectly which is something you don’t always see in small tailcap switch lights. It really isn’t much bigger than an 18650 battery and I only notice it when I need it.
Hi again, and thanks for your advice and suggestions. I’ve given this topic some thought over the last couple of days, and I must admit that the more I consider the 2x AA D25A2, the more I like it. One of the selling points for me is that AA’s can be found almost everywhere nowadays, so with a 2x AA light, it would be easier for me to replace cells when I’m in a tight spot or when I just need to loan my light to someone for a few days. But on the flip side, I don’t get the excellent runtimes or the 400+ lumen wow factor that 18650s can provide.
I’d like to give this another day or two of thought before making up my mind. Those other options certainly look very appealing (I could buy both the S-mini and the Intl-Outdoor edc and STILL remain within budget ), but I have to sort out what my wants/needs are with this replacement.
I do have one question I’d like to ask though. I’ve become just a little bit of a tint snob after using my Nichia 219 drop in for a while, and I’ve noticed that ET offers both XPG S2 emitters and XPG2 R5 emitters on a lot of their smaller lights. My question is: while the XPG2’s are substantially more efficient than the regular XPG’s, are they drastically any better or worse in terms of tint? Also, are there any particular emitters out there that generally have a good tint that I should look out for? Note that I don’t mind CW emitters as long as they’re not garishly purple or green in color.
Neutral white is within a spectrum. Some people lean towards loving 4500k others, 5500k. The nichia219 is gorgeous, nuetral xpg has gotten decent lately.
I’m not sure about the nuetral xpg2, and nuetral XML have gotten up too t6 bin.
Look for the color temp you like
SbFlashlights is selling L3 1aa keychain lights with the Nichia 219 for there nuetral
