looking for a tablet, is there any better deal than the aoson m723? yes, colorfly e708, ordered. coupon inside

My niece asked me to look for a tablet, and I have done a little research.

Especially the Ram is very important seems like...she wants to keep it cheap, but the 40 USD tablets are out of the question I have one, and its too slow.

The minimum specs it should have are:

1gb Ram.

8gb memory

Dual core

And the one that has al these and still being fairly cheap is the Aoson M723 @ tmart.

http://www.tmart.com/Aoson-M723-7-Capacitive-Touch-Screen-A9-Quad-core-Android-4-1-8GB-Tablet-PC-Black-White_p203589.html

It's $71 before any discount coupon.

Is there any better deal around? Including shipping.

The 1gb Ram is a must.

I have seen nexus 7 2012 16gb for $85 but that is in the USA.

I'm fairly sure you can find a good quad core for around that price. IPS screen for sure, or high res if you go with a larger tablet, (retina). Also, try to stick with the latest version of Android.

Talk to the different sellers like Tmart and they may give you a deal if you review it in a couple of tablet forums.

I second downlinx. The nexus series are the best bang for the buck IMO. I personally would screw the cost, and get a nexus 7 gen 2 32GB. It will last you for quite a few years if taken care of properly. I have a 32GB gen 1 edition, and it works perfectly for me. (intensive movie watching/downloading, games, music, internet browsing)

My only two complaints of the nexus line is that the battery and storage are not removable. seeing as I have 32gb of space to throw around, the lack of that feature does not bother me too much.

A bomb-proof case is a must IMO. Get one with a magnet, as it will turn on/off the screen for you every time you open it.

If you go digging a little, you can find the nexus 7 32gb gen 1 for under $90, sometimes even under $75.

What is the max budget? There are refurbs on dealnews almost daily. 7” Nexus for $75 or cheaper, 10” Asus for $110 or cheaper and 11” MS surface for $120. All with warranties and quad cores.

I’ve had great experience with the ASUS (Nexus) products - there’s a large community of support. I’d stay away from Archos, dell and Apple. Just my 2 cents…

Here’s the link on dealnews - mods, if it’s against the rules to post this, feel free to delete.

Dealnews

I ordered one of these for my daughter

w/ a case

It is crazy fast, Antutu benchmark was 12~K

I also used this method to root the Android OS so I can install and delete what APK’s I want

HiSense 7” LT refurb on slickdeals for $25 from newegg is worth a look due to price if the specs are adequate for one’s needs. Dunno what international shipping would be but you could also check ebay.

We got the Pro version for $85 shipped several months ago and are quite happy with it given size and price. The Pro is similar to the Nexus 7 1st gen and I like our referb quite well - no experience with the lesser LT version but lots of helpful comments in the slickdeals thread. Still thinking about getting the LT for our son to be more hands on with it. card slot gives some options to overcome some of its deficits.

Thanks for all the input.

Some good ideas. Some of you are mentioning some stuff that can be bought in the US, which would be okay, but shipping is definitely a deal breaker then I assume.

I would like to stay below $75 including sending to Japan.

That Colorfly e708 also looks good.

If there is anything else around that price, shipped, let me know.

The aoson doesn't seem to have an IPS screen, but still HD, whatever that means.

ChibiM, I'd strongly suggest you reconsider the 1GB RAM.

I have a Nexus S phone (2011) and a cheap Aldi (Bauhn) tablet (2012), both of which are giving me regular low memory errors due to the limitations of the 1GB system partition.

This is becoming more and more of problem with the lower end Android devices. When the free storage space gets too low, functions such as email retrieval and installation of updates start to fail.

I am not a complete novice with this stuff and regularly do things like clearing the cache and so forth. I also move any apps (that will support it) to the USB storage partition.

As far as I can tell, the main issue for me has been the number of large non-removable Google components that have been added over the past couple of years. In addition, I have yet to find any reliable way of increasing the system partition by taking space from the USB storage where I have about 12GB free. In a Windows environment, this would be simple fix but the Android threads I've researched all suggest that trying to root and repartition is likey to render me a brick. (I'd love to hear from any members here with more experience.)

As I understand it (so far) newer versions of Android devices may be able to manage the total storage a bit more usefully so as not to run into these errors, but I don't think that is common yet on the budget models.

Of course, you can always make sure not to install too many apps - the generally accepted answer to issues of insufficient memory always begin with "remove apps that you don't need". But this is not an answer that really addresses the problem. I don't have large numbers of big apps that I can do without, nor do I have many games. I do experiment with quite a few apps as I teach Android/iOS tablet/phone classes, but I don't consider that I have filled my phone or tablet with lots of stuff that I would be happy to delete.

My feeling is that your neice will probably be like most kids (age dependent of course) and want to install everything that catches her interest. If you go down the cheap 1GB path, you may find yourself with headaches and chasing a replacement sooner than you think.

It's a subject I'm still researching so I can't provide all the information you need, but just thought you should be aware of these potential issues. I hope others may chime in with suggestions or comments on this issue as there are many, many Android threads on this problem.

Cheers

My niece is 10, so yes, she would probably install quite a few apps. No idea though.

I was playing with my own $40 tablet and found a way to let it work much smoother. I don't do multitasking with it....because it's too slow anyway.. So I set background processes to 0 and Kill application at exiting. So that helped th performance greatly.I really disliked it, but now it works fine. Much more responsive.

Anyway, I think the 1gb is doable for within $75, but 2+gb is quite a bit more.

I will stay with the requirements I started the thread with, as it will be much better than the cheaper ones. And still not so bad.

Her mum has also a cheap tablet, so she will see that her tablet will be much more responsive than her mom's.

I really appreciate your help though but will stay with the 1gb requirement.

Plenty of sub $100 Win8.1 tablets on the way.

A little off-topic, but I use an app called Fast Reboot, that when you run it, supposedly kills off all apps. Some seem to restart right away (or don’t get killed), but running the app does seem to help.

Thanks for the tip Ohaya!

Killing the background processes helps considerably.

refurb. is okay. better than 720 with replaceable battery. Mainly web surfing, netflix & youtube. Need a device that will still be usable 2 years from know. If anyone runs across a deal let me now.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Sorry for sidetracking.

So… I have a Nexus 7, 2013 edition. Pretty nice hardware. And you know what I actually use instead? A $17 “boogie board jot 4.5”. It may be just a glorified etch-a-sketch, but it gets used a lot more often.

Granted, the Nexus 7 is for work, for testing new daily builds, and that means I basically can’t keep any persistent data on it for more than 24 hours. But even so, it’s just too big to take with me… so I don’t use it much. It’d be nice for reading manga, but otherwise I find smaller devices much more useful.

For andoird based tablets - probably ONLY nexus. All others don’t receive updates directly from google and you will be stuck with ancient Android version after some time.

i also use a nexus 2013 edition - i got it at walmart on sale for around $190 back in november 2013. I like android for tablet use, but find myself liking iphones for phones since ive had issues with several droid phones

Vendor-supplied updates don’t really matter much to me; I just try to make sure I get devices supported by Cyanogenmod or some other popular community project.

Successfully exploiting this vulnerability leads to a malicious code execution under the keystore process. Such code can:
Leak the device’s lock credentials. Since the master key is derived by the lock credentials, whenever the device is unlocked, ‘Android::KeyStoreProxy::password’ is called with the credentials.
Leak decrypted master keys, data and hardware-backed key identifiers from the memory.
Leak encrypted master keys, data and hardware-backed key identifiers from the disk for an offline attack.
Interact with the hardware-backed storage and perform crypto operations (e.g., arbitrary data signing) on behalf of the user.

Vulnerable Versions: Android 4.3 and below.
Non-vulnerable Versions: Android 4.4.

they have these at t mart so someone talk to t mart and
lets get a tablet at 50% off….
