Looking for....AA/14500 host

I’m looking for a host like this one: HERE
or
another that is built fairly well….

cheap is good……

Why look for one like that one, when you’ve already found it?

Simply……I don’t have much to spend on parts/projects etc, so I’m hoping someone out there has something they’re willing to sell very cheap.

That’s pretty damm cheap for a host, particularly in ha3, why not buy the bits over time? Say host now, xp-g 4c and 6*7135 nanjg next pay packet (assuming you want to run 14500).

I really mustn’t talk myself into this….

I like this host, some one know if this can take 17mm drivers?

Just cannibalize an F20:

The body mass of the F20 never seemed enough to dissipate heat well. I could be wrong, but that coupled with the thin aluminum pill seemed like “not enough” to drive anything hard. I was thinking the other host was a better option……

Go for a sk68 3 Mode clone, cheap and nice with Zoom to Throw optics.
5-8$ shipped

Gords, you really have the BLF bug, for sure.

That host is good, almost like a Convoy S3. Says HA-II though, not III

If you like the zoomie, SK68’s do work well. it all depends on the look you are after.
There’s an F20 clone at Wallbuys for under $10, with an OK LED too (not Cree, but not generic either).
For a buck more, the real thing at Fasttech.
The UniqueFire S10 isn’t too bad either.
These all give free spare parts if you decide to use them as a host.

That F20 clone looks just like my old akoray K-106 that I have had for more than two years. I built one up for my brother with a xpg and amc7135 driver and he carried that thing every day for over two years. He beat the crap out of it. He lost it about a month ago and it was still working fine. He had carried it in his pocket so much with other things there was hardly any anodizing left on the light. One tough little host. I recently purchased another one just to have around in case something happened to the first one.

Honestly, there are so many in that style, I’m not sure who is the original anymore… I have a TF F20 thanks to Old-Lumens and I like it on AA NiMh. Too much current on 14500, bright but terrible run time.

That’s what modes are for.

True… wait, the last thing I need is another mod project right now. AA only for now.

i have one of those akoRAY 106 lights, but I don’t think it would handle heat well. I would need to beef up the pill a little, but since I don’t really have the tools, etc. to do it, I was hoping to find one of the UF/TF/everyfire/skyfire/pandafire/……whateverfire hosts I linked to in the original post. I know the bodies are a bit thicker and pull heat better.

ANYWHOOO….maybe someone has one sitting around….receiving no love… I will be more than happy to take it off your hands. I need a replacement light for when I fish in the mornings. I have an older Olight that’s about to bite the dust….hence the need for this project to succeed.

Thanks for the responses - good ideas floating out there.

Yeah, the F20 style is not great on the heat. It’s not the pill though, the body is too small for more than 2-3W of power. Not enough surface area for more than that.
