yes stuff used for seats, looked up JoAnn and it seems not expensve, just 2 minutes checking, sure hardware stores, crafts stores, ebay, amazon have it too.
You just have to think what will fit “inside the box”
Ikea kids foam mattress should yield enough for a bunch of cases
If you just want a cheap source of foam that you will cut to your own specifications,
you can get a 2” thick foam mattress topper at Walmart for $20.
I have used this several times for shipping large heavy items that needed to be wrapped in cushioning, and cut it into pieces for smaller projects. It is probably the best cost to material ratio that can be found.
Thank you all for the suggestions. I do accept that I must be willing to do some work to save some $$’s.
The poly foam (mattress/cushion) options seem like they will take much more effort to cut shapes and layer. My case is 8” deep…I’m planning on 2 levels…1st of flashlights and second of chargers/accessories.
The Kaizen foam seems like a good option, but need to check local distributors. A 2’x4’ sheet is $22 but shipping would be additional $38.
This place has every type of foam you could want—- I replaced my Pelican and Plano cases with chemical resistant solid foam—I don’t like the pull n pluck stuff—you will have to cut your own sizes though(very easy)
It’s a really neat product, but the sheet size makes shipping expensive. See if you have a Woodcraft or Rockler Woodworking store nearby.
If you decide to order directly from FastCap, sign up for their mailing list. They frequently send ‘$10 off any order’ coupons. You might even ask if they could cut the foam sheet into smaller pieces to save on shipping.
