I currently have Cree 6w 27000k bulbs linked below, but they do not dim very low even though my dimmers are on the compatibility list. Incandescent bulbs dim extremely low my current dimmers. the Anyone know of any bulbs with the same color and same output or higher that dim low?
Don’t know the souce, only see this cree 6W bulb is cheap.
Except the dimming problem, how about the quality?
They have been great. The color and distribution is like an incandescent.
I did some measurements on the Cree 6W globe. It came down to 7% output for me with a Lutron Skylark CTCL-153P dimmer. On the other hand incandescents dimmed to 2%. So the Cree is still much brighter when full dimmed. Also the color doesn’t change to yellow / orange like an incandescent does as the output decreases. So it isn’t as good for mood lighting.
I have two wire dimmers and here is what I was told.
“When it comes to dimmers and LED’s the functionality can be very dimmer dependent. My Leviton dimmers are part of a home automation system (respond to X10 Commands). Because of that they use three wires instead of two. The issue with older two wire dimmers (newer are better) is that there is so little current going through the LED bulb and dimmer that the dimmer doesn’t have enough current at lower brightness to operate the dimmer! Just as a test take an extension cord and plug your LED bulb and a regular incandescent bulb into the same circuit. I think you’ll see that the dimmer suddenly works better.”
