So I’m one of those who don’t need 12-18W frigging watts in a light the size of this S21. My S2+ have XM-L2 emitters at 1.4A and 1A, and I find that’s plenty. That’s like 3-4W, right?
In the Convoy website there doesn’t seem to be an option in that range, unless I’m missing something. Even with the 12 group option and using one of the two groups that limit the output to 50%, that’s still 6 plus watts, which is kind of insane IMO, to be honest. I also don’t like the available modes in those groups anyway.
Is it possible to mod the driver of flash a custom firmware to limit the current to something more (admittedly subjective) reasonable?
The S21A uses a 20mm driver and Simon sells 20mm to 17mm adapters.
I’m pretty sure he would install a lower current 17mm driver in the S21A if you asked.

As far as I can see, the 17mm driver for the SST40 runs at 5A vs 6A on the 22mm driver. Doesn’t really move the needle all that much, unfortunately.
Am I being unreasonable or something? Is there a reason nobody seems to care about lower power EDCs anymore?
It seems to me that most of the people purchasing Convoy lights are enthusiasts and don’t really seem to mind having the extra power.
For me personally, I like having the extra power.
I typically use 1% as Low, 10% as medium, 35% as High and 100% as Turbo.

Oh, thanks! I know those drivers, of course. Somehow I thought those 7135 drivers wouldn’t be compatible with the available emitters. That’s a constant current driver, right? So I’m guessing it will work with both 3V and 6V emitters?
Those drivers are only compatible with 3v emitters.
You’d need a boost driver for a 6v emitter.
Yeah, it’s confusing when some of the listings list specific emitters, like the SST40 for example.
Any 3v driver will power any 3v emitter, however the current may be too much for certain emitters.
For example you wouldn’t want to power a Nichia 219B with 5A or 6A, it would burn up.
Of course, makes sense. You can’t get 6V with a 3.7V battery without a boost converter. Thanks again, you’ve been super helpful
