Looking to chat about the Thrunite T1, On The Road M3, Fenix e16

Hi all

I’m on the hunt for a new EDC to replace my trusty Jetbeam-1 MK which somehow got separated from me. I tried sticking with very slender 14500 driven torches and tried the Thrunite T10ii but got coil whine, so I returned that and wasn’t pleased with the other choices.

I’m kinda curious about Olight s10 influenced stubby lights, including but not limited to the Thrunite T1, On The road M3, and Fenix e16

The thrunite t1 hits a lot of the features I desire, like, magnetic tail cap, electronic lockout, shortcuts to moonlight and turbo. And I am curious about stepless dimming, but think the way the thrunite does it is maybe bizarre, and wonder if I could live through it.

The On The Road M3 looks to be a (solid?) knockoff of the Olight S10, though it is at about the price I would expect to see the s10 discounted at around Christmas time. And I’m a Olight customer and love their products, so I feel a little weird thinking about getting this light, and I don’t know much about the 16340 batteries in general. It seems like I get a slim profile, and some oomf, but i’ll be charging frequently. So this is mostly something I’ve researched, but don’t know about and i’m not sure i’d really buy it.

And then there is the Fenix e16. I appreciate and have heard a lot of great stuff about Fenix, and maybe this is the compromise? I think I’m sensitive to big step downs from turbo though and 700 lumen to 300 feels big to me. As a matter of fact the 3/30/150/700-300 configuration is utterly reasonable, though I think I’d be more into it if it was 3/30/150/400/700-400. My other thing with the Fenix is that the Jetbeam-1 MK is rated at 1/30/480 and in reality is more like 10/50/400? But that beam is amazing, long throw with nice floodiness about it. The Fenix will be all flood it seems and not as bright.

I like the 18350 battery in general and own the Astrolux S1 XPL 1600LM flashlight, and while I can’t use the UI for EDC, I love it as a bedside light and for letting the dog out.

I’m currently carrying a Thorfire TGO6S. it is slender, potent, and I wish I’d lost it instead of the Jetbeam-1 MK . I don’t notice the PWM, but it chews through batteries faster than any other flashlight I have. It is small and outside of the head proudly sticking out of my slacks, it is not bad for daily carry, where I either want the highest setting, or the next highest setting to start with most of the time.

I know all of these s10 influenced lights are going to be thicker, than what i’m used to carrying, I think I can stand that. I’m just curious if anyone is actively carrying any of these lights for daytime EDC? But as i’ve written and edited this, I think I’m circling around the Fenix and Thrunite. I think the Fenix will be more practical and i’m sure to be amazed. The Thrunite will be tolerable and i’m sure i’ll live forever with thinking the stepless dimming isn’t a good execution, but love the power.

I’m also looking for other thoughts and selections from folks, as well as good conversation about flashlights.

I ordered the Thrunite T1 yesterday. 1500 lumen from such a small light was just too inviting. More of a novelty but oh well. I carry a Folmov 18650S with a 3000K XP-L Hi emitter. One of my favorite EDC lights. its about the size of a 21700 battery. S1 is a great budget light also. I have 4 or 5 of those in different colors. Lots of great choices. Good luck.

Received OTR M3 Pro this week (less than 20$ with a coupon from banggood).
Comes with a Usb type-c charging port (not really a fan of it) and options for cw or nw. You can use the port for charging or as power for the light (no battery) if that’s your thing.
It’s very light and small, nowhere near my Astrolux S41. Also beware as the barrel won’t accept 18350 batteries, they are too thick for it.
The ui is good and the magnet tail comes handy. I’m considering putting a LH351d for high cri.

The fenix E16 is so small and that’s why the stepdown to 300lm. It’s one of the smallest 16340 lights in the market

The tir lens is a piece of art and it’s surprisingly throwy. The tint is also great at around 4000k, very similar to XPL HI V2 5D

The fenix is that girl you date and are totally happy and then the other lady comes around and you question everything. I think i’m also getting torn about flood vs throw. I used to be a flood guy, but I keep getting these amazing throw lights and when a light doesn’t throw now, i’m confused.

The thing is that the flood is all I need for EDC, as is 300 lumen. Anything over 300 lumen for daytime EDC is mostly unnecessary for me. I think I get hung up with my fantasy of attempting to find one EDC to rule them all. As opposed to a daytime EDC and a nighttime EDC. I did (still do) this with pocket guns; I swear by the SW Airlite .22 these days.
