Looks like your flashlights will be ok, but a bit delayed

Noooooo! Hopefully it wasn’t due to defective Li-ion batteries.

I think they had hydraulic problems, and it simply ran off the runway after a landing. Nobody injured

I placed an order on 3/23 for some items from Hank, they have been stuck in Hong Kong since 4/1, so I guess my stuff wasn’t on that plane. Covid lockdown I’m assuming.

Yeah, they had an hydraulic failure mid-air and during landing the landing gear collapsed. Emergency services were already standing by, everyone is OK, except for the plane.

Check out this video. Doesn’t look like the landing gear collapsed. Looks like the brakes were locked up

If you have to be in a plane crash, that’s the kind you want to have: a survivable one!

Here’s another analysis from Juan Brown. He has a lot of hours on the 757 and is a current 777 pilot. He explains the hydraulic systems on the 757, and has some insight with the air brakes and thrust reversers. Although, he makes no conclusions.

That does appear to be the case. The brakes are a hydraulic system, and so if the issue affected the anti-skid feature, that would explain the smoke from the wheels long after touch down - the brakes or tires overheating and catching fire, losing effectiveness.

It looks like only half the spoilers are up, too, which is typical for having one of the redundant hydraulic systems offline. At least the left thrust reverser appears to not be deployed, so I assume it was the left hydraulic system.

There’s a video from further down the runway at the Aviation Herald entry for the incident, and an aerial view after the incident with skid marks obvious on the runway. The 757 has 4 tires on each main landing gear strut, so the appearance of three lines show the skidding was occurring at an angle at that point.

I watched Juan Brown’s video after my prior post. It’s a good discussion, almost entirely based on aircraft technical data and what is seen in the videos. I can think of a couple possibilities for the final loss of control, some that could have involved a better response by the crew in this tense situation, some that could have been technical. I’ll let the investigators sort that out. I’m just glad everyone’s ok.

Watch Juan’s video above. He has about 10yrs flying the 757 and explains the hydraulic systems on that aircraft in terms of what would work and what wouldn’t depending which of the 3 systems failed. But yeah, the landing gear was down, but anti-skid apparently wasn’t working,

Will be interesting to hear from the Pilots what exactly happened.
