Lost Package Issue: I Need Your Help

Most of you are aware of my being laid off nearly a month ago now. I’ve been lucky in that time to be back in stride fairly fast and be around to post and enjoy the normal stuff…well, mostly.

The dilemma I have concerns the delivery of two lights, a C12 from Lightmalls and a Q5 thrower I ordered from Sunsky. Since I moved out so quickly, I ended up needing the packages shipped to me. Before the next resident moved in, the apartment shipped me back an expensive order from Fasttech. I got it. But that was not all. The next resident is moving in now since a deal fell through on the place several weeks ago and I learned no one has been in my old box.

Lightmalls and Sunsky have answered my emails about this problem and showed via tracking that both items made it to my box. The problem is, they aren’t there. I know the staff and they wouldn’t stiff me by stealing them. I don’t think I feel comfortable getting the companies to replace the items since they did ship them, but I don’t want to lose my money either. I have 3 to 5 more days to do a PP claim, so I am asking for advice on how I should handle the situation.

Thanx

since they show it was delivered… i don’t think you can dispute it through paypal.
it probably was taken by somebody who knew that you moved already but they didn’t expect you would have come back and try retrieve the package.
sorry bud… if i were you, count your blessing and move on, no need for drama.
items that was lost can be replace as soon as you get your paycheck
peace of mind is better than few dollars lost

If they can show it was delivered then they have some kind of tracking number. What you need to get is the customs number and use that to contact the Post office with. I used to ship guitars all over the world and once in a while something like this would happen. They could very well be in a lost or undelivered bin someplace. Try and try again with the post office. Eventually you will find someone who will be sympathetic who also knows the system and how to find them. I once had a Fender Strat (photo flame Japan model) that got lost in Sweden and marked undelivered. It eventually was found in New Jersey and three months after I shipped it the guy ended up finally getting his guitar. I was going to refund his money and file the insurance claim, but we waited it out and luckily it all worked out good in the end.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

I would check with the Post Office, just in case, but the vendors aren't to blame, it's probably someone here who got their hands on them and made off with them. Probably not much to do about it, but I wouldn't go back against someone who already fulfilled their end of the bargain.

If the po didn’t have a forwarding address, they might have been returned to sender and original shippers would not know this until they received them. Check with po, then check again with sellers in a few weeks. Or they’re just sitting at the po waiting for you. Bad things do happen but more often it’s not as bad as it first seems. Good luck. If they were stolen, have yourself a rant, go to a batting cage, then move on.

Thanks for the input. It has been helpful. I will get the tracking numbers and get back on the horn with the post office and if that doesn’t pan out, just cut my losses.

Maybe report it to the police? It might not only be you that is missing post.

Shitty situation. Good advice here.

Contact the PO and investigate. It might be a painful phone call depending who picks up. Might need to call multiple times during different shifts to get someone that is helpful.

I have had to use this approach with many businesses, not just USPS. Sad, but some people are simply no help, either out of ignorance or indifference.

Beyond that, is there a community office or maintenance office or anything like that who you could check with? I wouldn’t blame them at all, but might not be a bad idea to run it by them politely.

Were you on good terms with any of your old neighbors? Maybe hit them up and ask? That might be a stretch…

There is a chance someone walked off with it. There is also a chance it is stuck in limbo somewhere waiting for you.

I was on very good terms with my last place and all neighbors. I have spoken with the general manager and several other staff and they have bent over backwards to help. The local post office next to that apartment is run by New Orleans French Quarter chip-on-their-shoulder types who are rude and generally incompetent. They don’t even open the store on time and reporting them would do no good. They only have ONE of my packages, which, thanks to a friend, is on its way here. It’s just not worth it. The sellers aren’t the guilty ones here, and a police report wouldn’t do anything. sigh

I am really hoping it is in limbo somewhere. WOuld be a nice surprise.

Maybe give the PO another try in a week? Never know… but it doesn’t sound good.

Police report won’t do jack, like you said. If you are still cool with the neighbors, tell them to be on the lookout for any questionable individuals running around with crazy powerful flashlights. ha yeah that probably won’t work either… :frowning:

Where is THE ENFORCER when we need him??

LOL ’ello mate!

Think you might need to swing thru Joes old neighborhood to get his packages back

Hmmmm…. OK:

  1. locate thief,
  2. bust said theifs face,
  3. return lights to proper owner.

Should be easy enough, right?

Wish I knew amico mio.

There is no ‘try’… there is only ‘do’.

Indeed. You are wise.
