Lots of Beamshots

I was out of town recently so I took a bunch of lights with me to get some beamshots away from the city lights.

I spent a bit of time doing them, thought I had got it right but when I loaded them up on my computer it turns out the camera was out of focus for almost all of them!! Pretty disappointed but they still give an indication of how the lights compare so I figure some of you would be interested regardless…

I’m not very good with the camera but the settings were
F4.0
ISO400
1.3 second exposure time

So first up is the location…

80m (87yd) to the end of the jetty

230m (251yd) to this tree which is right down the end of the water in the first picture

And just for fun, a long exposure shot of the TN31…

I always use the manual focus on night shots. You have an amazing array of modified lights which your pictures show the difference in beam patterns very well. Did you have an assistant?

Yep, I should have manually focused it. I think the problem was, it was freezing cold, quite windy and I was on my own. So I was keen to just get through them all as quick as I could!

Great shots. Unfortunately for me many modded lights so I can’t really relate  For night shots, I use manual settings. I think I use 1.2 sec shutter speed. Captures what my eyes sees pretty much. Not sure how to adjust white balance though. Got to test.

Yeah, I’m not sure how to adjust white balance, and the shutter speed goes in 0.3 increments so from 1 up to 1.3secs.

There are a lot more to come in the second post, which I’m editing at the moment. Lots more smaller / floodier lights which were pretty useless at spotting the jetty.

Wow, beautiful and interesting location for beamshots. That had to be a lot of work and they are much better than anything I can do. Thank you for sharing.

In that terrain, what is you favorite light of this beam shot bunch? I thing it would be FF4 or the TN35vn for me, but I wasn't there to seem them in person.

Thanks!

It’s hard to pick a favourite as there is such a wide variety of lights.

But I would lean towards either the TN36 or the FF4.

The FF4 is just something else, whilst it probably doesn’t throw quite as far as my TN31 it just pumps out light far and wide.

The TN36 has a really nice tint and just lights up a massive area with a ton of light.

Looked at the pics again. I see why you like that TN36. Very wide beam with some decent throw. Now I want one of those.

TN35 looks like a mini FF4! Anyway thanks for taking the time to take the shots. I just took some output shots myself, and like the others say, manual focus is the way to go. Take a few photos to dial in the focus and then you are ready to take your real shots.

Cool !!! Thanks for the shots LSX.

I notice blue streaks in most of the shots. Was the light above the camera? Perhaps that is clear air reflecting blue light, like the blue sky.

Thanks for the comments guys. Whilst the pictures aren’t in focus I think it still gives a good comparison between the bunch.

Fritz - I think you are just referring to the beam? That’s just how they show up on the camera. I thought most look like that?

Thanks for sharing these nice beamshots.

Very nice beamshots! Seeing your TN36 NW shot makes me really excited for tomorrow when my TN36 NW is scheduled to arrive. I can't wait!! :)

Hi Johnny,

May we expect to see some beamshots from you too?

Thank you,
-Chuck

You actually can. I have a new location to shoot from that is amazing. I also have a new trick up my sleeve that should take them to a whole new level.

Great reference shots of the various models and different emitter types , impressive collection you have and thanks for taking the time to post them LSX.

Glad you like them guys. I love looking through beamshot threads so when I got the chance to do my own I took it. Just a shame the photos didn’t turn out very well. Ah well, maybe next time!
