As soon as I read of these Tools I was hoping to immediately try the TIR into my older Tool!
I was excited to compare this out of box with my now slightly worn Tool XP-G3 but I was not expecting a reduction in size!
The clicky tail as well as the body section seem to be the same size as the older Tool making the size reductions only in the head of the light.
The knurling is slightly smoother.
The silicone diffuser pleasently fits both Tools.
Magnetic tail only fits the older Tool.
Pocket clip now has raised sides hopefully to prevent scuffing the annodizing.
(Head Teardown)
The new Tool has no glass and a slightly different bezel to accommodate the TIR making optics swaps not feasible :weary: .
The LED appears to be the Osram PUSRA1.PM and I can only speculate why they’ve chosen cold white over a more efficient neutral white but it still gave me 495cd at turn on with a recently charged NiMh.
The MCPCB appears the same as old.
The new pill is slightly shorter than the older pill.
I did not remove drivers to compare, further apologies, they however appear the same from without.
Hello, can you please post some pictures? I’m interested in one of these but the information online about this OSRAM version is scarce. I think it has the EDC01 head or at least the TIR…
Yes, disappointing. They now machined the o-ring grooves slightly different, the o-rings themselves are a bit thinner.
Pictures of the EDC01 head do appear to match the TIR-Tool head besides branding, so I am willing to assume the optic matches as well. Being pebbled it makes quite a floody diffused beam.
Oh they done a different machining. I asked on their AliExpress shop if they will do the magnetic tail, and they answered yes, by the end of this month ( I asked earlier this month)... This flashlight is on my buy list for some time, and I was hoping to buy it now on the AliExpress anniversary with some discount. I want to buy it so maybe is better to stick with the older xp-g2 version. By the way I already have 2 edc01( one with LED swap the other still in the box) and I like the beam, with the LED swap is even better.
The unusual thing is, this model is not showing in their Ali store either. Still, it exists and that’s something I will look forward to. Thanks for the link :+1:
This one says OSRAM, but the images and description are wrong, just like it was on amazon at first. Seems like they just can’t get right with updating their listings properly.
I bought one on amazon before anyone here was talking about the new version. I was expecting the regular one that I’d been hearing about. I contacted Lumintop and told them their listing is incorrect. They thanked me for telling them and said they’d update it, and gave me a refund and let me keep the light.
Now I have a red one and a blue one on the way from Ali, those have been around a while and I’m pretty sure they’ll be the cree version.
Around what color temperature would the Tool AAA (OSRAM LED) and the Tool AAA (XP-G2) be?
(note: the Sofirn C01 Yuji 3200K is warmer than normal, because I didn’t have enough good AAA NiMh batteries to test all the lights together. I used a very old, very high-resistance NiMh that produces much less brightness than normal, which caused the tint to appear quite a bit warmer)
Also, setting the flashlights to Low brightness levels may affect the tint (in this case, the Low of the other AAA flashlights is less bright than the 1-mode Sofirn C01)
