Can anyone tell me if this is a good buy and setup for a mod or scratch build for a thrower max output. I’m trying to gather supplies for the
scratch build and i’m not sure if this has anymore output than a XHP70.2 with a Texas ace driver at 8A. Also not sure about accuracy in the description saying it is a 7A driver and its adjustable from 1A to 18A. I’m looking for Max output. And how it can be adjustable at all. I’m still learning , Thanks.

I’m pretty sure that driver is only rated to 7A. The SST-90 is rated to 18A pulsed. At that current the XHP 70.2 probably has over double the lumens output.

If you want to build a thrower, you need to use as small led die as possible, with as high die brightness / luminosity. The SST90 is likely not the best to use. Osram seem to make some, but I think other blf member know which led to use.

The SST90 is good instead for very big flood, and bright light because the led die is very large. If you want to drive at max power, a direct drive fet driver like some that texas ace make is good. For this driver, it look like a bucking driver but maximum 7A, which is not near what the sst90 can be running at (but still quite bright!)
