Lux to Lumens.

Hello:

I’ve been looking at two lux meters I have had in a shelf for more than 10 years.
No clue how to use ’em.
Even if I’m not the sharpest shovel in the shed, I should have, at least, open the boxes.
I’m terrified of them.

This morning, don’t ask me how, I stumbled into an APP called Galactica lux meter.
Went to the Apple store and installed it.
It measures something. At least it changes readings according to light intensity.
Let’s say I trust it for what I need.
However it reads in Lux, as is supposed to read. I need lumens.
How do I convert lux to lumens?.
Thank you for your help.

Cheers.

You need a light integrating device. Lux is the brightness reaching the sensor. Lumen is how much light leaves the source. But you don’t know how much of the light doesn’t hit the sensor. With an integrating device all light is distributed evenly onto a known area and you know the area of the sensor, so it’s possible to calculate the output of the light source.

Thank you for your help.

I saw a video of Matt building a light integrating device. In fact two.
I can swing that. Bunch of PVC tubes and elbows.
Once I see the video a few times (like 20) I’ll build my own.
After all, I have the meters. If not the will.
We’ll see what happens.
Thanks again.

Cheers.
