I just wanted to do something different with a Maglite, so I decided to try putting a .55mW laser in one.
Just a stock Solitaire
I bought one of the FastTech 2 packs of these little lasers
I used a piece of copper tubing to make a sleeve around the laser.
It fits tight into the Solitaire head and holds the laser tight
Back side of the head
I also had to open up the body. I used my rotary tool, but the right size drill could be used. I just want the laser to fit in easily.
All I need now are some batteries and a little ingenuity for the terminals. I have ordered some button cells to go in the body. When they come in next week, I can finish this little project.
I saw them, but I figured I could buy 12 button cells for the price of one of those and of course, they are Li-ions, LOL. I ordered the button cells from Amazon, actually 10 for… I haven’t decided on using just three or go for four of them yet. 1.55V each, so it’s either 4.5V or 6V. The laser is rated at 5V and I tested it at 3.6V and it works. Just don’t know what 6V would do to it, but I would think they would sag a little and I never worry too much about stressing things… Until it’s too late.
