Magnifying glasses for closeup work

Just picked that one up yesterday - nice! Noticed on your link to the right, looks like another version with more gizmos and a better magnifier.

Haggai - any discount tool places nearby where you live?

The DX reading glasses I have are actually very good. I've seen exactly the same items on sale in a big UK pharmacy chain for more than $30 a pair.

I like that they are small as I can look over them when not reading or doing close-up stuff. I use +1 for reading and anything up to +3 for fiddly stuff like reading 1 point Flyspeck Sans fonts on motherboards.

i need to get some for finishing checkering. they're about the same price at wal mart here but they don't come w/ a nice case like those.

Thanks all for your helping hand suggestions, but as I mentioned before - I already have it and I don't like this kind of magnifying glass.

Maybe just to complete my reading glasses set I need one that is +6 or +8 diopter. But these are too expensive, at least what I found.

No such thing here.

Absolutely zero consumer awareness in Israel. Just in the summer there was a huge protest against the high cost of living, and now it's all but forgotten and people concentrate on stupid things like Israeli companies selling candies abroad for cheaper prices than in Israel.

The pocket clip on the case is useless - the first time you clip it to anything, the clip breaks off.

Apart from that, they are glass lenses, coated and well worth $3. In fact they are better than some things being sold at twenty times the price. I've never broken a pair, but have given away tens of them and lost plenty of them too. But at that price, who cares.

What do you say about this: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/5x-magnifying-telescopic-spectacles-112970 ? Do you think its focus is close range? I have a similar one that is 3X magnification but only focuses at about 5 meters to infinity.

(and I remember recently DX had another one similar to the 5X I linked above, but for ~28$ and with more customization options, but can't find it currently...)

They look awful.

As to actual quality?

I've no idea. I find a set of +3 glasses magnifies enough even if the working range of them is very short.

I picked up two pairs of reading glasses at the dollar store. +1.75 and +2.25. Both are very useful. Soon as I tried them I had a DOH! moment. I couldn't have figured this out sooner? Makes it a lot easier to solder wires to drivers, my most difficult task. Thanks for the suggestion guys.
