Hi guys, was wondering if anyone else has gotten a “smooth” bezel U11? By smooth I mean it has no notches to remove the bezel. I looked back at a couple of the reviews and even up until a month or two ago the pics show the bezels as having two notches with which to remove the bezel, however, mine is completely smooth with no obvious way to remove/unscrew the stainless bezel.
I wanted to drop a different emitter in there but might have to get creative to get the bezel off.
Wow, that’s really disappointing. In 2 ways, since I’ve always like the look of those bezel notches. I wonder how many others are fond of the look as well. Though, with only 2 notches, the Manker U11 doesn’t look as good as others.
I’m with you, I like the look as well. To me though that’s secondary to the other issue you mentioned, like most here I’m guessing, probably 99% of my lights gets modded at some point. And the notches in the bezel make for an easy swap, barring the use of threadlocker by the manufacturer. Without, while not impossible, it does complicate things.
Well that sucks. I have one on order from Gearbest and it should be arriving in the next few weeks. I was really hoping to throw a NW emitter in there. Darn.
It can be removed, I think some were loose from the factory run that GearBest had… Go to the dollar store and buy one of those silicone mats for opening jars, place it on the counter and press the bezel into it and turn the light. The U11 Bezel sticks up a tad from the front of the body, this should let it grip the silicone mat and open the light.
An XPL V6 3D version is on sale now at Amazon, but it would only cost you the LED to change it out. I have a 5D in mine, and had a 7A in as well, they all look good with that awesome reflector…
XPL HI is an option too if you are DIY about this, just make sure to be careful you do not chip a corner off the HI when putting the reflector back in.
That’s what I did, it worked. I had a piece of flat rubber like material I used, came right off. Not a deal breaker or real problem, but I’d feel better if it had the notches so I could know it’s fully seated and tight.
And you’re exactly right about the bezel, there is a very small flange that prevents it from seating inside or completely flush, even when fully tightened as far as I can tell.
Was in the process of looking for internal pics to see if anything else had changed when I checked the thread for responses. I’ll let you guys know what I find, may be tomorrow morning though as its getting late.
ETA: Doh! Missed iam4wheeler’s review HERE as well as yours which he linked in his review. His light in the review has a smooth bezel. Internals look the same, so just this small change, and it’s still fairly easy to remove the bezel.
Thanks for the tips about the LED’s, is the seller trustworthy? With all the stuff lately about counterfeit emitters and incorrect/erroneous bin claims I’ve been hesitant to order from unknown to me sellers.
3D is nice, one of my favorites, BBL line runs nearly center of bin and it’s just below 5k. I’m waiting with everyone else for the High CRI XP-G3’s to ship, and I need some new batteries so I think I’ll take your suggestion and place an order with mtn.
Thanks,
Michael
Also, edited my previous post. Basically looks like no changes other than the bezel.
I asked about the vendor as I ordered one a few days ago from Banggood. I have a feeling that there was a production change across the board, so getting a smooth bezel from two vendors would confirm this… I will update here when it arrives…
thank you sir….just received my from BG with smooth bezel …had me worried since want to remove visible dust particles inside and stain residue underside of glass?? visible moisture/condensation on first night out?? Luckily for me bezel was removed with bare hand and pressure against palm… :+1: no rubber band was needed!
