Manta Rays from LightMalls Driven at 5 Amps?

I have heard virtually no talk about the Manta Rays from various vendors, but I have seen them online and they seem to be another free-flow host that can utilize anything.

The XM-L2s at Lightmalls are said to be driven to “Max 5A.” Probably means nothing, but with the success record of the Lightmalls C8s, C12s and similar lights, I’d give a second look—especially a light with distinct cooling fins like this Manta Ray…

Has anyone experimented with these models, from Lightmalls or elserwhere?

NOTE: I spoke with a rep on LM who said the XM-L2 U3s are “days” away.

Never seen mantarays. Like the standing tailcap. Though it might be annoying in pocket. Not so sure how I feel about lights with exposed fins. Price isn’t bad, but 2-5 bucks cheaper would be much more appealing. Lots of good lights around 20-30 bucks.

I only have one Lightmalls c12 myself, but its a good one. From what I have read the xml2 c8s from them are generally good. Xml u3 c12s sounds like they had a bum batch.

Hopefully newer LM releases are more like the good c12s and c8s… less like the xml u3s. Probably always going to be some amount of “lottery” to it.

Are they going to be selling XM-L2 U3 emitters or just lights with emitters or were they just saying that in general they will be released?

Lights with the emitters, I was told.

“Lights with the emitters, I was told.”

Ok, I see. Well emitters can’t be too far away then.

I ended up buying 13 of the lightmalls C 8 Xmlu3’s and ended up only getting one bad one the rest have ended up in the hands of relatives some of them using them heavily on. Saily basis if these Manta Rays are anything like these man they should be winner’s I can’t wait to see if anyone gives a review .

I bought three C8 XM-L U3s from LMs and everyone of them was awesomely driven, despite criticisms from the vast majority here.

I also have the KDC8XML2 and I can’t tell the difference I have heard the XML2’S dont make much difference unless on a copper sink pad or multiple batteries powering it but if this new mantaray is anything like C8’s oh their gonna be briiiggghhhhht!!! And I have noe regrets in my C8Lu3’s

Max 5A and 1,5h runtime on high on a single 18650?

I really hate such BS.

Well its good to hear reports of OK xml u3s from lightmalls. We can only go off what is reported.

The style of this light is similar to the UniqueFire M6, which I have and recently mod'ed - XM-L2 U2 1A/16 mm SinkPAD, 3.5A Nanjg. It's a powerful pocket torch now, little smaller than a C8, SMO reflector - I'm thinking this is the same size but different styling - no dimensions listed though, but looks more slender than a C8 so don't expect matching output and throw. 5 amps is way over the top for a light this size - it's pretty impossible now to get 5 amps out of a single cell XM-L2 light with no boost driver, even with all the extra copper wiring and a Samsung 20R battery, so 3 amps if your lucky at the tailcap.

light malls C8XMLU3 again have a I law that uses it for law enforcement daily. .and hes nothing but praise for it and has even dropped a few times on pavement with no ill effects and compared to his old duty light it’s 1/3 as big and tons brighter. .Tom E thank s for warning saved me a few $ and disappointment
