Massdrop Titanium AAA

I bought a blue one and the switch doesn’t change modes. It turns on in moonlight, but that’s all I get. Is there a way to get a replacement switch? I put the mechanical switch from my Lumintop Tool AAA on it and it works fine. It’s my favorite little light. I ordered a silver version from Drop, but I’d rather be able to fix the original than cannibalize the switch from the new one. Besides, what if that switch also fails. I can’t be the only person with this switch problem. Has anyone else been able to get a replacement switch from someplace?

With that switch you need to turn it on then quickly turn it off and back on again to cycle through modes. Have you tried that method?

It’s a start! Maybe your cell is depleted? Or, as is the case on mine, there’s not much of a difference between M and H when using Eneloop?

The switch has a capacitor in it. Needs to sit with a cell in it to recharge a while.

I got a couple of the Massdrop Brass versions back when they were still using Nichia 219B. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with mine. It’s become the gold standard by which I judge other clickly AAA flashlights.

Then I started seeing a lot of negative reviews and didn’t understand. I don’t know if something changed with the Brass. I ordered an Aluminum version with 219C to save on weight last Fall. The button was terrible. It was spongy and hard to press properly. It was much different than the button on my brass model. It would also occasionally flicker and turn off. I could have tinkered with it but I just sent it back for a refund.

I’ll be curious to know how things turn out with your current titanium model.

I fixed it by taking the switch out,
and giving it a serious talking to
so it understands I mean business,

then I put it back together.

After that, it was afraid of me, and respects that Im the Alpha Dog in charge here,
it has worked great ever since.

I think it also helped that I found the rubber button was not properly seated before my interrogation. That situation was remedied upon reassembly.

It can be as jon_slider pointed out with the rubber seal. While the momentary switch can work fine, it’s not properly centered. Every time you push the titanium button it is only hitting on one side of the button because the switch is mounted out of center on the FET switch pcb. That’s why it can feel a little funky sometimes, its only a straight down action if you press where the switch s located. Pushing from any other location makes the button run down a little side ways and the action doesn’t feel as good.
