I'm not Comfy, but I'll tell you that the resistance is really high on that MOSFET. The RDS on the 70N02 is only 0.0053 ohms at 4.5v. Yours is 30.0-45.0 ohms at 4.5v. It is easy to see why this isn't a good choice for this application, that one is rated at 6A MAXIMUM because any more than that and it would burn up from all the heat generated inside!
That SOT-89 part has the wrong pin layout to be a direct swap onto a 7135 board - on the FET, the load connects to the middle pin and ground to the L/H pin, on the 7135 board load connects to the L/H pin and ground to the middle pin. If drain & source were reversed it would physically work, but you would need a whole bunch of them and if you added enough of them to get something similar to what you can do with the same number of 7135s, the attiny13 wouldn't be able to drive them, the total gate charge would be too high.
Thanks for the feedback. I thought it would be strange if I came up with something for this since I don't dabble in this FET business yet. But hey. Now I understand it a little better. And I'll admit I read the Rdson wrong on the Vishay FET. Though it was 53 mOhm. Not 5,3 mOhm. Sorry for taking your time.
No worries ledsmoke. I looked into these for a few days a few months ago, the other problem is that the pinout isn't the same as the 7135 so it would take some rework anyways. Now with the new OSHPARK boards available there's no good reason not to just use the 70N02.
Hey Rich, not sure if I read the sheets correctly but it looks like 30-45 milliohms not 30-45 ohms at 4.5V and the pin outs are not reversed so it’s a straight swap for the 7135. Good find( at least until we test it).
Edit. Gate is correct but drain is wrong and you’d have to do some gerrymandering to make it work. The size is good though.
Rufus, I was already corrected on the ohms (see above). Didn't even look at the pinout of the datasheet... I had found so many that were wrong that I figured it was a pattern standard. Oops!
Me too. I had started that post and finished it after all the intermediate ones were done. The gate pin and ground tab are correct but two of the small pins are not.
