Middle of the road 18650 light ?

Well it’s been a week since my MT-G2 mag mod and I already want a new light.
I’m looking for something ‘middle of the road’ with throw spill and output. 1x18650 is the size I’m looking for, because this at some point may be weapon mounted.

I’m looking to keep the price under $50 but a few over is ok.
The nitecore p15 caught my eye, at $40 and with ~270m of throw, plus it has the dual springs for recoil management. The p12 looks nice too but I’m not sure if the throw is good enough, and it only maintains turbo for 3 minutes. The downside to the p15 is the output.
I got an mt2a from Nitecore a while back, and it’s not been treated very nicely, and still works fine so I am led to believe that they are as durable as they claim.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Dual springs for recoil management won’t mean squat under heavy recoil, like my AR10 or my M4 Carbine (Hot Loads). You have to limit the amount of travel of the battery. I have blown many a so called weapon light up by the battery driving through the spring impacting the driver. I add o-rings in front of the battery to restrict and slow the motion down. I test all my weapon lights mounted to the barrel of my Remington Model 11, the barrel recoils along with the action. If it can make it thru a 5 round dump with Nitro Mags it is usually good to go!

Do you want a tactical switch?

You might consider a Thrunite T30S V2, Thrunite TN11S V2, or an Acebeam L15. Cheaper options would be a Convoy C8 or Convoy L4.

Preferably yes, but it’s not a requirement.

The springs will keep it from flickering, though. And you are absolutely right. Limited travel = less inertia and less force against the head of the light. Thanks for the idea.

It probably won’t see any weapon use, I’d just like it to be able to take a .410 if it needs to. Not really that heavy a recoil, as far as I’m concerned.

It will just be my mid size light to belt carry when I need something with good throw and decent runtime, unlike my aforementioned mag. My olight s10 is great but at night i like something a little more sustainable.

What size o rings you use?
Where do you get them?

Honest question; do people use guns so often (outside of law enforcement/military) at night that weapon mounting is this important?

Honest answer, from a guy that just woke up at 5am and dispatched a possum trying to dig in the chicken coop with sawed-off double-barrel 12g and Convoy S3 duck taped to the barrel, yep. Use it quite often unfortunately and always ready for all kinds of critters on the prowl at night.

Honest answer; no, this is mainly for critter control. Possum, groundhogs, squirrels etc. I just would like it to have the capability. And it’s not like it’s life threatening if it doesn’t work.

However, there are people with much larger properties than me with expensive things like livestock that the really need to be able to protect. It’s hard to shoot what you can’t see. And they would rarely have to shoot someone messing with their stuff. If the trespasser turns around to see a gun barrel, he’s probably on his way out, and not coming back for a long time.
The point is, it is a much a deterant as it is a weapon. The light adds to the efect.
