Lately I’ve seen more lights that don’t ‘jump’ instantaneously into each level, but rather they do a short ‘ramping’ up to the next level. I wonder if it places less stress on the LEDs not having a sudden jolt of current. Just my theory. Anyone know?
It’s all about acting fancy. Any compoment-preserving ramp would be far too fast too see.
I hate that misfeature. It wastes my time and grabs my attention, distracting from what I was meant to use my flashlight for.
The "idea" of stress caused by jolt current comes from the old incandescent lamps where the resistance of the filament is way lower (about 10 times lower) when the filament is cold causing a high current peak until it's hot enough (thousands kelvin !) to reach its nominal resistance.
Leds properties are a lot more stable regarding temperature variations in normal use
