TIR optics don't tend to throw a tight spot. The 10 and 15 degree ones I have tried, have way too much spill and they tend to blend spot to spill, so the beam is more uniform. I think that is because their real use is in home and office lighting. They just do not have the defined spot of a reflector. Just my thoughts. SRK is designed to be a flood light. Hard to make a thrower without large diameter reflectors.
The 10* from IOS is particularly good. It'll give a more well-defined center spot and less spill than the stock SRK reflector, but it still won't be anything like an average C8 for throw.
edit: Yup, looks like the same parts as in the second FT link.
Yeah, making a thrower with ~20mm of reflector-Lenghts is pretty hard.
I don’t like throwers a lot, but i would like to have a bit tighter beam than original.
I will just order the 10° optics from FT - 2$, who cares
The Carclo 10511 with the frosted front surface polished has a much tighter spot and more spill than the more common 10507. It's a shame they don't sell it in a non-frosted version, they have to be done by hand (or on a spare 3-up board chucked in a drill).
One has 12 Nichias and is driven by the 32x7135 driver, the other one has 12 XP-G2s on Noctigon and got the FET-driver. Bright enough, and for throw I have the new Convoy L2 here and the M24 Sniper on it’s way.
