I have a 2D cell that I would like to modify/upgrade. I read & watched some YOUTUBE videos about the 5*Cree R2 Drop-in. All this has been done in a 3C and 4D+ but never saw a 2D. It’s posible to get it done in a 2D with Li-ions or so. Just curious. I’ll appreciate you input.
Yes I know, I saw some videos and read some threads about. They said it’s not that hard. You can file down the 5*Cree R2 drop-in to fit the maglite head. The complicated part is modding the switch.
Thanks a lot
I meant “complicated” because I’m not an expert, just learning a little bit. I’m handy but need to learn some electronics especially LED technology. I’m looking for samples (pictures) to do it myself. I like the idea of DIY things. Thanks
The switch is the easy part ,I would think the hardest is filing the drop-in to fit inside the mag.
I suggest you tape the top so no iron filings get onto the reflector as it is very delicate I mean VERY , wipe it with a soft microfiber cloth still scratches it so be very careful NEVER to touch the reflector.
You may need a set of small torx bits if you have a newer Maglite. They replaced the hex socket grub screw in the switch with a torx head one ~5 years ago. I apologize, I can’t remember the size.

I do have them, i have a micro-screw driver set and allen keys. Also have a few soldering tools and hands free twizzers. I’ll try soon.
Thanks. (I don’t know how to upload pictures)
By the way, just saw this video over the weekend (A 2D Maglite with a TerraLUX TLE-300M-EX & 2 x 18650 w/adapter)
