Most Awkward Lights to Hold/Carry...

Your top 3 or 5. Most poorly weighted, obtuse, awkward, heavy, or otherwise tiresome to hold and carry?

4 X 18650 light.
that sure is big and Fenix TK41 8 X NiMH :stuck_out_tongue:

6D Mag

5D Mag

4D Mag

Most long multiple 18650 lights.

Hate to say this but it is BTU Shocker to me.

Head-heavy oriented, overall heavy, and rear switch. The ergonomics consideration is completely senseless.

I find 2AA and 2AAA a bit annoying to hold.

How bad is it? Immanagable or just inconvenient?

Number one is the Shocker for sure. The SP03 and Terminator are annoying to carry by the handle but at least with the SP03 you can turn it sideways or take the handle off. The Shocker is better with the lanyard on and wrapped around the head and used as a handle. I like the plunger lights but I do wish they made more with a side switch. But compared with a Shocker they are all nice to carry.

6D Maglite. Sucker was heavy.

Try it with 6 AAs inside D-sized spacers. It will suddenly become lovably light for its size!

oLight S10 is so short it sits awkwardly in my hand. I still love the light, but often wish it was an extra centimeter or two longer.

btu shocker - as much as i love this light it feels like im carrying around a small tank

6d mag - again… i love this light as it doubles as a whooping stick… but my arm gets tired

most 2 x 18650 lights are awkward to me,

I’m not too into my fit 40s, three 18650 tube and a tail switch is just wrong.

Once my work calms down I’m going to machine a sideswitch housing and three 26650 tube and I’m sure it’ll transform the light from backdoor light to serious usage light.

Reading what people are saying about the shocker, I can’t help but be pleased with the trj19 I got off 18sixfifty, its got the output and throw and the nice long tube loaded with cells really balances the heavy head. Again it crys out for a side switch but that’s easily sorted .

I’m quite fussy about ergonomics.

My Goread CK-36 feels a little awkward to hold. I think it’s the head being wider than the body. It’s just a little short in the tube to grip. Ideal size would be a bit longer so the length of the head multiplied by 3, but then the tailcap might be better replaced with a side switch. It is making me reconsider the similarly shaped Convoy C8. I may look at 1x26650 lights next.

Nitecore EA4W feels big and bulky now I’ve got the Convoy S5.

I think I prefer smaller lights, with simple lines. Generally speaking, fins, crenelations, tailcap cutaway and aggressive knurling don’t feel good either.

chloe, take a look at a trustfire t2.

think you’ll love it.

Thanks, gords. I saw some comparison pics and now I am leaning towards a Solarforce L2P. >.<

Basically you have to operate it with both hands, one hand to hold it and another hand to operate the rear switch, unless you grab it with tactical-holding way, which is even worse.

About the weight, I believe for people with average strength would feel tired after holding it for an extended time. It is a 1.2kg dumbbell in hand! I may use this to build my biceps.

I think 80% or more of the people buy BTU Shocker are just attracted to its performance, “moddability”, and price, that’s including me as well.

Out of the lights I own, the Sky Ray King is the worst to hold. It’s still a great light and I love it but you don’t really hold it, you carry it.

On the flip side, my HD2010 fits my hand perfectly for a larger light and the circumference is just right.

I’d have to agree with the Shocker being most awkward, this is the main thing that has prevented me from ordering it. And I’m someone who doesnt mind carrying 3-4x 26650 plunger lights for miles. I also havent bought any “brick with a handle” style lights because of ergonomics, I used to have one pre-LED lights and they just feel silly unless you like to carry a lunchbox wherever you go, its harder to adjust/carry other things with that hand because of the grip/angle, cant easily hold dog leashes and aim it in the same hand.

2x18650 are a little annoying: too short to hold in the middle and access the switch, too long for many pockets but small at the same time and you end up carrying and using it like a big light, but without the light output/power/utility of a long stick, so you get the worst of both worlds.

All aluminum lights are uncomfortable in the mouth. I once had a polyethylene 2C light that I used in lieu of a garage light for a year or so before I got tired of it and bought a headlamp.

The L2P is a very good choice, of course being a Solarforce L2 series you can pretty much kit it out however you want.
I’m using one of mine as host, with 2 extension tubes, for 6x3v123a’s and a 3-18v UV drop-in.
Usually I’ve got this kitted out with this bezel on the A001 head , that I suddenly can’t find on Solarforce sales HK website (where it was $19.99), and this tailstand switch , they make a good “Lego” torch do Solarforce.
And fit very nicely in the hand.
