It would be nice to see a clone of the Fenix BT-20. Would be nice to see bike lights with a battery pack that you can insert/remove your own cells like that.
Garrybunk: +1 on the removable cells so you can use highpowerered quality cells from Sanyo or Panasonic instead of the cheapest crap they usually put in the batterypacks…
And the added advantage is that you can use your own quality charger instead of the included one, most of which has got pretty bad trackrecords from what I’ve read online at least…
That is a nice find! Now if we only knew what the connecting cable looks like! Guess it could always be replaced with the magic shine type. I see there are many bike lights that are sold without the batteries and charger (as cheap as $18 I think).
I seen that socket somewhere but can't remember where! It was also bike light, hmmm, where did I saw that!!!
Anyway, it's a excellent combo if you are building your own bike light or adapting some flashlight or just want to replace those cheep ass 11$ 2s2p battery packs that come with magicshine clones.
That is probably ok for brightness but not a blast. I have a Solarsorm X2 which I assume similar. My Solarstorm draws 0.44/1.1/1.78A from full battery (on a quick test with a couple 18650s as a source).
Another downside is that it is tiny! With no airfow it heats up to a very unconfortable 70C+ in 2 minutes at room temperature (I’ve not tested how far it would rise after that). With no airflow it stabilases at about 50-60C on medium. I’ve not tested either if there is a temperature shutoff at some temperature. Being that small there should be one.
It is light and small enough to be very comfortable on the helmet though. The temperature will be lower with airflow and if it is cool outside.
Thanks for the feedback on the Solar Storm light. Any chance you could post a review with photos? Seems like a very nice light (although it seems it could use more heatsinking fins or something).
I’m considering on a review. First I have to figure out how to open the front. I have one of the hex screws stuck with a head where tool has been slipped. A good review needs to have it open!
Also I should give it some use to get to know it better than just getting it out of the box.
Any ideas on this Shadow X11 bike light at Int'l Outdoor Store? It says batteries are not included but are two 18650's in parallel. Does this mean there is a battery carrier included? If so, this should be a very good bike light option (although maybe not the most powerful) for using your own cells.
