This light…
It was discussed here : https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/19069
But I don't believe it's ever been reviewed.
I think this was discussed awhile back, and an email disclosed it was a MT-G1, not MT-G2…
Relic and I collaberated on a cheap and very simple build if you, or anyone is interested, cost is about $45 dollars on a Noctigon Copper from IOS.
Need you ask?
Relic should be here shortly, he has all the specs and details:
A $45 MTG2 light? Tell me more Flomotion
*1
An MT-G2 can’t run on one 26650. It needs 6 volts.
Nice flashlight. It’s waterproof too.
The light Flomotion and I used is 2x18650. Very good results. Fairly easy build, since there is no host or reflector modding. Basically an emitter and driver swap. I did the usual spring mods too. the host is avaliable for $15, emitter on Noctigon for $20, DRY driver for $5. Total is $40 ish. I also have a 2x26650 host that I’m thinking should get an MT-G2.
Host:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/121021214397?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&\_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 This is the one we actually used….
Emitter:

Driver:

The driver needs slight angle sanding, to fit snuggly. Do not over sand. A piece of desolder copper braid can be add to the outside contant ring, then gently folded under to make contact with the pill housing (then soldered if you wish). The OEM emitter hole alignment plastic has to be enlarged for the bigger MT-G2 emitter. Can be thermally potted, with transfer pad, and thermal compound used under the emitter, and reassembly of the the two part pill housing. Relic measured it as draw 5 amps for a few seconds, then falling into the 4 plus range. OTF lumens were above 2000, for about 10 minutes of run time. The light is totally dependent on the quality of the batteries used, as the DRY is DD on Turbo. Over a 30 watt torch, relic has more specs if you PM him. Really surprising build, color is excellent, floody but decent throw…
Careful with that Ali listing. The reflector looks different. There is a flat part in the base of it. The ones we used have a pure conical emitter that needs no mods.
will you or flo sell the light complete? i suck at modding or doing any electrical skill type stuff.
Actual parts:
19.80
21.85
5.00
Flat Rate Shipping like $5 bucks, if you want it, Okay?
If Flo is up to doing it, it will be cheaper for those in the US. For me, time is limited. I may do one or two, case-by-case, as time permits.
hmm…just saw the 10 minute run time hahah.
that little huh? even with 2x18650s? so your saying roughly about as bright as a king.
but im assuming this build is floodier?
have you two come up with any 2 or 3x mtg2 yet. i think i seen relic bulding a 3x but waiting on a driver or something.
that sounds even more interesting….
Asking 18650s to deliver 5 amps for very long, is not electrically possible. The run time is on turbo, and even a regular DRY has a Power Down to the next mode in 120 seconds. Relic did alot of testing, and for a modder build, this is the most powerful and inexpensive build. We did not do the build to sell them, you just ask if someone would sell or build one as you indicated that you were not a builder or modder. We posted the instructions, and I offered to build one (or send mine) and send it just for the cost of parts and shipping. But, I will tell you, that a 3x MT-G2 will be putting out a lot of heat, because you are talking 100 watts. I know that relic paid about 80 something for the host, is using the OEM driver for now, and the emitters are $21.85 each. If you still want it, you can PM myself or relic (relic lives in Canada).
The run time is based on thermal issues. The host gets warm after that time. You can probably go a lot longer. The cells are going to go downhill fast at 5A, and will taper off to 4A in about 10 minutes or so. After that it’s a steady decline to 3A. No low battery warning, just a steady decrease in light.
Running on high is not a thermal issue, and you should be able to get an hour like that.
ok cool, ill probably wait a lil bit. sounds like you and relic may got something goin with that 3x mtg2….
might be expensive, but way worth it
